I have recently experienced some bizarre problems with Quark files.  Printing from a PDF workflow, I use Supertrap on virtually every file I make, then impose in pre-made templates in Indesign.   If I get a Quark 6.5 file and open it in Quark 7 to make my PDF, my proof comes out fine...but when I plate the job it changes all the screen values and colors come out incorrect.  Any thoughts?

My advice is to never open a 6.5 file in version 7. To many things can and do happen like what your now seeing. One of the many reasons my shop will not update to Quack 7 and will only except PDF's from customers how have gone on to the nightmare that is Quack 7.

Thanks!  Very good advice.  I guess I have a bad habit of trying to figure things out and giving myself a headache for no reason.   :o

Yep not much help there anymore. Even Quacks engineers don't know WTF is going on from the looks of things...

Scooter, how are you getting your pdfs out of quark?  are you using the built in "Export to pdf"  or are you printing to postscript and then distilling??

I prefer the latter, but im not getting but maybe a handful of quark jobs a year anymore..   this may help with some of your transparency issues..and as stated, use the version of quark that it was built in..

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't Quark 7 use the new Pantone colors? Not knowing for sure but can you download the old Pantone colors and put them in place of the Quark 7 Pantone colors?

oh he just moved your thread to the quark section of B4print instead of in the "Bar"...  it'll get more "quark related" attention here..  over in the bar we just like to drink, shoot darts, and occasionally poke fun in pointy...   :o
