You are da man, t-pat. proceeding with said job. Artiste says she supplied CS5 and CS4 files, in email. I can see an INDT doc there, but nothing will open with cs4, or 5.   But yours is open...

she fumbled, you need from CS5.5 .idml

WATCH FOR REFLOW!@!!
I've seen very very small differences in these that will cause type to reflow, not sure if it is the type being tracked differently or the text boxes being somehow a fraction of a mm smaller.

Zombie thread resurrection.

Anyone out there, I need a 5.5 backsaved to 5. I have a feeling I'll be able to pitch getting CS5.5 and 6 when it comes out now that we won't be saving any money.

Sorry about the sendspace.  :embarrassed:

I need an indy file backsaved. Might be 5.5, might be 6 I'm not sure. No rush, I'd ask the customer for a highres PDF but I already know it's screwed up and I don't have that kind of time in the day to play prepress tennis with a designer.

Sorry about the sendspace.

Just the indy file.

I just had to call the designer while he was at disneyworld. 400% black on the back cover isn't going to work and he even admitted to screwing up.

Man, if you do it once, they'll expect it forever. This is the reason I don't have publisher anymore. PDF or nothing, unless they use industry software.

If they supplied round 1-3 as PDF, why can't they just make a PDF now?

You beat me to it Tracy. A warning though. Do your updates before you put anything into your production. Editing images in Photoshop from a PDF does not save them back into the PDF correctly until you do the updates. There was also an InDesign issue that gets fixed by the updates. I don't remember exactly what it was though. :old:

I have another one if anyone is around. It was built as reader spreads. I asked for a PDF single page in reader order. They moved the back cover and that screwed up the front cover because of some master page elements.

Instead of using the page range box to get a correct PDF...

I even sent them a screenshot of how to do it from their original file. They deleted all the pages and sent me just the cover. All this after I've already fixed the issue. How the fuck do people like this keep their jobs?

Thanks a lot Joe!
I spent some time just catching up on post when you replied (perfect timing).  I know that I might come across as that one guy who only shows up when he "needs" something.  I have gone through some tough times in the past few years that just soured me on almost all things social media related.  I have always felt part of a family at b4print and just wanted to take a moment to thank all of my brothers and sisters in prepress for the years of advice, tips and all around amusing stories.  JOE has done a great job of hosting this site along with his team of moderators.  I was there when Prepress Forums was sold off to the "Reflex Blue" (thats the Devil to those in the know).  THANK YOU JOE for taking over the helm by offering this place.

I think Skryber printed out a lawn sign for her house. If I worked at a real print shop I would have done the same. That and a vote for my dog sign. Both choices are better than the ones we presently have.

I'll get you Joe!

If I wasn't so busy with this dumb ol Quark file...

made changes to the 40pg doc the other day
open today to make 1 tiny change, and boom-font error, what the heck?
Now I'm having to replace the stupid Futura to a more
modern font and fix the whole freakin thing.

I hate Futura
Title: Re: He-e-elp! backsave please...
Post by: David on January 20, 2017, 09:06:09 AM
what are you using to manage your fonts?
I have found that Suitcase is horrible with quark, Font Explorer works better.

YMMV
Title: Re: He-e-elp! backsave please...
Post by: Tracy on January 20, 2017, 09:59:17 AM
Font explorer, using an old mac that has quark on it, the fonts were super old Futura BT, postscript
I replaced it with an open type Futura book
just so weird the Font Futura plain (not book) was there and then not there
I had collected fonts too dang it!!!

Post by: David on January 20, 2017, 11:41:53 AM
well, you just snake bit me...

I just had a Q8 file, Suitcase wouldn't activate the fonts, linked .eps file was missing fonts

Good Morning and Happy Monday to all.  I need a Creative Cloud file exported to an IDML.  Thanks.

Can't get this file to open. It's an archive of ours from 2008, but it seems to have a plugin we no longer have, causing a glitch. If anyone can open this, please send me a working idml! Thank you in advance.

Here you go DigiCorn.  IDML Link (https://adobe.ly/2BVTzZv)

Strange thing was, I opened it in BBEdit to see what I could see, and it looked like a Quark file. Good thing I did, that clued me in to opening it in INDy CS4 with the MarkzWare plugin for Quark.

Thank you! Just starting my 3rd year here, and it wouldn't surprise me if that's what it was!
