Macintosh / Re: OSX Monterey and AFP to Windows server

Here is one of many articles on the internet about why and how to disable SMB 1 on Windows servers 2012 and later. https://www.rootusers.com/disable-smb-version-1-0-in-windows-server-2016/

I only use Bridge for managing/dispersing our color management settings to all our Adobe software on each workstation.
Out of curiosity I opened Bridge 2022 went to libraries and i see all of my shares mounted via SMB in the left folders pane i believe.  From there i have no problem navigating through them all.
One share is Kodak Araxi share and that one is 5TB and is currently at 3.25 TB full and i have no problem drilling down through several folders into live Prinergy jobs and opening PDF's etc.

What windows server version are you connecting to?
There is a chance you could be experiencing some conflicts between SMB versions 1-2-and 3

On our Mac's running Monterey we only use the SMB protocol for all of our Windows shares from 3 Windows machines including two Windows Server 2019's and Windows 11 PC that we share out Fiery hot folders to our Mac's.
Never any issues.
Some issues in the past, yes, but ovah the last several years no more....seems Apple finally got the SMB protocol working right.
We dropped the use of ExtremeZIP years ago....no longer necessary.

I'm with you both... I have about a dozen shares that mount at start up and one app, Outlook.
i used to have Acrobat and one or two more.
Although I will say that SSD's certainly took a lot of the waiting away for startup items.
Acrobat is still painfully slow at finishing to launch, must be all the plug ins...I guess.

Your old Mac had that password stored in the keychain for sure.
On this subject...
I hope you know you can have all your needed shares mount automatically when you start your Mac?
Applications too if you want.

System Preferences/Users and Groups/Login items...drag shares and applications right into the window.

Just checking to make sure you are not missing out.

Well that's interesting information...but certainly not surprising.
Is that with EFI Pace?   We use Pace here.
Both parties say the connection between the two is more worthwhile now... ::)

Quote from: David on October 18, 2022, 10:37:46 AMcolorflow is great, but it is a major server hog.
The database grows expontially every time you edit a profile.
We were using it at my previous place (quad) and we had to constantly delete old profiles and it was slow as mole-asses.

You have to set up all the printers in the network, do a ton of testing, then cross your fingers it didn't lock up when you were using it. If it did lock up, you had to reboot the server to get it back.
Also, only one user at a time can access the app.

I found myself being confused by the settings and the terminology used, lucky for me I wasn't the one they put in charge of it, I was just the admin.

Keep in mind this was several years ago, hopefully they have resolved some of those problems.

YMMV
Thanks for the user knowledge, I appreciate it.
We have a robust Dell Server here for Prinergy, we hardly ever see any slow downs on anything so hopefully with Colorflow that would not change things, but i totally hear what you are saying about the potential for hogging the server.
When we purchased Prinergy and Insite in 2017 we paid extra for 2x2.60 processors added in 5TB of storage.
So glad I was able to convince the owners to do that.  That server is still going strong.

Kodak sends in a color guru for 4 days to set up ColorFlow and Ink Opt.
Cost for that is $7,600, that includes profiling our 2 40 inch Heidelbergs.
Not even addressing our 2 color digital presses...yet.
Im sure its going to be a long learning curve after the initial setup.

Thanks Joe.
Yeah the opposite here, we already have 5 or maybe 7 those JTP's and 5 Preps licenses so those two don't matter to much to us, although more is always good.
We don't have RBA although I hear it is very valuable to have but i can't see myself ever having the time to figure out how to put it to use.
It's really the ColorFlow and Ink Optimization and perhaps the MIS Connectivity that we are interested in.

Anyone have any experience or advice for connecting Kodak Prinergy Business Link to their MIS system?

Kodak has now moved all their Prinergy addons/products to monthly subscription pricing.
We had been looking into adding Colorflow with ink optimization but the initial cost had us dragging our feet.
Now they have bundle it into a monthly subscription and eliminated the upfront costs.
The bundle includes:
1 Additional High Res JTP
1 Additional Refine JTP
1 Additional Preps license
Colorflow Pro
Colorflow Pro - Ink Optimization
Rules-Based Automation
Business Link (MIS Connectivity Module)
Staccato Screening

Definitely at least 2 monitors... actually 3 works even better.
2 x 27 inch and 22 inch here.  3monitorsetup.pdf
A lot less time spent moving apps and windows around.
Work smahtah not hahdeh...I'm from New England...we don't use the "R" up here...LOL.

Those maxed out 2018 Mac mini's are fantastic and are still sold on Apple's website and they will run the next two versions of Mac OS at least.
Also knowing that Kodak takes a full year or longer to keep up with Apple leaves another year or so before we would worry about updating the OS anyway.
So thats at least 3 - 4 years plus the year we have had them running.
So we should get five years (maybe longer) total usage time for 4 used mac mini's at a total cost of just under $5,000 dollars!
I would think any owner of a company looking at hardware expenditures would be thrilled with that.

Besides being prepress manager here at our medium sized shop, I handle all the IT too.
This has allowed me lots of leeway on decision making on this matter.
That doesn't mean i just go wasting money though.
I made our 2010 - 2012 Mac Pro's last as long as possible by updating them all with Metal capable GPU's and RAM upgrades...almost all of which i bought used.  I also used Open Core on two of the MP's to allow them to run Big Sur.
I am still using a loaded 2010 Mac Pro running Monterey 12.6 by using Martin Lo's method of OpenCore.
Here is a link to Martin's posts on the mac rumors forum.
https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/activate-amd-hardware-acceleration.2180095/page-53?post=28255048#post-28255048

However that is not feasible for a whole prepress dept. as it can be time consuming to keep these old MP's running.
So, we finally replaced 4 Mac Pros over about a year and half by buying the maxed out 2018 Mac Mini's used from ebay and OWC.  Sometimes if you are watching you can snatch one of those Mac Minis for around $1,000 or so.  New they are almost 2,000.
I tried to time all that with Kodak finally releasing Prinergy 9.5 because as we know we could not run Monterey and for a long time Big Sur anyway so a new Mac was kinda useless.

It might be an easier sell to ownership to spread the purchasing of new (or used) Mac's over a period of time rather than all at once.  This also allows for easier and gradual installment and troubleshooting too.
