Artwork Systems / Re: Packz software
November 28, 2014, 01:26:31 AM
we are forced to use the software desighners use - we dont accept pdfs as artwork so its all illy/cc based across the company (and its a very big company)

but being a bit nuts about this kinda stuff i'd like to see it

i donno what the nas drive set up is sadly - and since this was happening on the old system i kinda dont think its the nas - i'm gonna start rebuilding a new folder, dragone project over at a time to find, if anything, the offending files/jobs

slappy - oh man we have EXACTLY the same thing. and uutomation engine wont work if theres bad carachters in the folder name - so ya make another one - and cant delete the first one! grrrrr

well mac wise a couple of the desighners are running yosemite, the other mavericks. we are one OS behind so it doeant screw out esko stuff up

the folder itself now sits on a NAS drive raid system - however this was originally created on a windowz heap - which flavour I dont know.

they recently installed the nas raid system and copied all data from the old heap - so its surprising this "feature" has accompanied it

we also have issues deleting and renaming files sometimes - I.T. scratch their heads and as fast as they can mention knowing nothing about macs - which is fcuking ignorant and irrelevant since all repro work is done across the pipes to their boxes

frusrating to say the least

 :banghead:

our jobs are listed first by customer folder, and then inside this in seperate folders the individual jobs/ranges

connectivity is smb

TWO folders are posessed

they disappear right in front of you - then a few seconds later come back. the I.T. fellaz are reluctant to touch anything "mac" - so it pissed them off when I pointed out the folders were on their servers and not our macs

its a bit more stable if you go file>open and navigate there, but it still disappears. when i say disappears - i mean just that. it vanishes from the customer list :drunk3:

so - any ideas?

 :goodpost:  :drunk3:

we just moved all our shit onto nas drives (wasnt my idea) which are several terabittys large raids, mirrorred off site

was a pita coz the I.T. guys did the move and it opened a world of pain for esko automation engine pilot and sharing the containers etc. we lost all links to previous jobs and had to create a third container and combine the first two into the third somehow (done while i had a day off thankfully)

as much as i was grateful for I.T. for trying - i really wish they had an esko guy come in and do it

what a handy feature - I bet (spit) freehand never had that feature!

i've got latest cloudy everything - even that cc2014 illy, and i'm not running mavericks - no problems at all.

strangely (or not), esko never did get back to us and confirm when desckpack would run on mavericks or later

not used it but wasatch, caldera, shiraz, onyx- all wide format rips - gmg got their production suite now which looks good

i'd deffo look at sai photoprint - i've used it a lot and it is excellent.

good luck with wasatch

yeah here ya go

http://fierysafe.com/PrintMIS_Review/issue_10/Rastek.asp

raster printers - wasnt impressed so my advice - shop around
#25
ok am trying to remember what these are really called these ones - efi bought the company a few years back - godammit who was it :homer:  oh yeah - either rastek or raster uv

anyhoo - i trialled the (whatever it was called) machine over here in the UK of Britland and it was poor. slow speeds, cure banding - even in unidirectional, costly inks, crap service back up - i forget whose heads are in these but greyscale heads seem to give better results so beware of that. I do think its an older machine regardless of what they tell ya

is this one still uv lamps? LED is where its at now, lower power, cold cure and much much longer lamp life that murcury arc.

i'd deffo look at something like caldera, shiraz, sai photoprint or similar as opposed to xf, mostly because these rips are specifically for wide format uv whereas xf i think is more geared up for thinks like epson 9900 or hpz6200 size

they are also better for x/y zero'ing, accepting white channels, configuring thickness/head height etc

i'd deffo be absolutely positive its fast enough, economic enough, GOOD enough and competes with comparable size/picolitre/hybrid/flatbeds in the same price range
