Ugh! I updated my illustrator yesterday, no more Pantone, I do have the older version on my other Mac
but I think I'm going to need the Pantone license.

Joe

I have decided I don't need any Pantone license. :P

ummm, unfortunately we do . . . and they know it, and that's why we are now where we are at.
If you don't like my comment, ignore it. If you don't know how to ignore it, message me and I will be only too happy to demonstrate how.

so... again... being out of the game, what happens to legacy files with Pantone, and what happens when you build your own spot color library and name the colors like Pantones? And what happens with customer supplied files who have the license and you don't?
"There's been a lot of research recently on how hard it is to dislodge an impression once it's been implanted in someone's mind. (This is why political attack ads don't have to be true to be effective. The other side can point out their inaccuracies, but the voter's mind privileges the memory of the original accusation, which was juicier than any counterargument ever could be.)"

If the spot colour is linked to a ACB that isn't installed, then the colour will be visualised as black. It will still separate correctly and be picked up by a spot colour replacement lookup table correctly in other software if the name matches... But in Adobe CC software such as InDesign, Illustrator it will be black! In Photoshop, if the linked spot colour is using one of the legacy colour book files that have been removed, the colour will be displayed correctly as it was defined in that historical point in time.

In all cases, all one needs to do is break the link the old library file by defining the spot colour values in Lab, RGB or CMYK values rather than using the linked color book values.

Business as usual so far without Connect.

I should just let them go but...

Former employers statement at the start of 2023: "We need all those (1100+) pieces of packaging updated, just change the name in the fine print, so it's only a K plate change to save money."

Even if it worked out their way, which would be for 20% (maybe) of all files - we have to explain thet Adobe pulled support for any files using Type-1 fonts, and also Pantones on layouts that print as 4C-Process ... this is (unemployed) me now :rotf: :rotf:

Its when you do the updates That your swatches disappear

Holy cow I thought buying connect was going to allow things to be the same
