We still have some OS 9 macs connecting to our Citrix server from a couple of satellite locations but our Citrix software is about 8 years old. I'm guessing the newer version beer is using might not have the client for PPC Macs any longer but to answer your question beer, yes if you install Windows on a an Intel Mac via VM Fusion, Parallels, or the FREE Sun VirtualBox you should be able to access the Citrix server via the Windows Client in the Windows VM. Just be aware though you'll be accessing your Citrix Server in a VM via another VM. Can't guarantee you'll like the performance.

There is Citrix Client software written for Macs. You don't have to have Windows to use Citrix ICA files. There's also a web client implementation. But it also may be the case that your IT department isn't licensed for certain things that is causing "difficulties".

thanks everyone - useful info. since i'm hoping to get a new shiney mac, my plan was to run windows on it and therefore be able to use citrix - on the other hand i gotta plan for not getting the new shiney shiney mac and see what i can manage with what i got

as for licensing - thats a good point. the server owners and their I.T. "guru's" (what a shitty word) all proclaimed it was not possible to run it on my mac - maybe - maybe not - to be honest i cant see why not, but every one to a man was frightened to even go near my mac - seriously! wtf!

i asked why - they said "we dont deal with macs" - i said why the hell not its just a damm computer - at which point i decended into mass piss-taking that they were not professionals after all - only "part", mentioned i can run several os's and got generally childish

once again - thanks everyone

If the IT "guru's" are so smart, why can't they manage Macs? There's less to manage...

exactly - the guy who set up our deal with the cirtix providers is an I.T. guy too - and he is very well aware we have macs here - he's the damm M.D. ffs - so why do the deal with people who only support "some" systems?

We prefer not to LET the IT people touch our machines. They either wind up asking US what to do - or they screw something up.
