Kodak Systems / Re: Prinergy version 10.0
April 25, 2024, 09:47:44 AM
I think you need Windows Server 2016 or 2019.

https://workflowhelp.kodak.com/display/PRIN100/Supported+servers+and+workstations

Our IT department is concerned because End of Life for 2019 is October of 2025 and goes into Extended Support.

Watch the server upgrade, if needed.

We are on 9.5 here, both Prinergy and InSite. We want to upgrade to 10 for both but PressProof will require OS upgrades on all 7 stations. We are thinking about seeing what the pros and cons would be putting it all in the cloud.

The last 2 upgrades required OS upgrades on the servers and they were painful trying to migrate all over from the old to the new.

Adobe Acrobat / Re: Reducing pdf size
August 31, 2023, 06:23:20 AM
I would fear all the refrying and extra processing would take the file from a proof to a refried pdf.

Can you send it in halves to get under the size requirement?

Fujifilm XMF / Re: Upgrading/Replacing the Server
August 21, 2023, 07:29:56 AM
With XMF is it possible to run virtualized? With Kodak Prinergy and InSite we have done this and it is great. With Kodak we had to have support for the disk image but our IT Team loves it.

Kodak Systems / Re: Kodak Ink Eater Mark
August 16, 2023, 02:46:12 PM
Had time to get the mark to work as I wanted. What threw me off was my own fault, needed to read the info better. I was working the start and end points off the sheet but it's off the plate.

Going to try it on the job that has been giving fits. Will adjust the min density and max saturation as needed.

I never did try the GUA, rather hang with the cool kids here.

Thanks!

I will report back, swamped for a spell so not sure how long.

The kodak "help" says to place the variable on a pdf mark and place taht in preps - seems odd but I'll give it a go.

Thanks everyone for your time! I lurk way more than I post, lol.

We normally add take off bars of various sizes when needed but we have a cover that runs weekly that is being problematic, wanted to try the Ink Eater. It is supposed to evaluate on coverage  and I wanted to see if it would help.

Kodak Systems / Kodak Ink Eater Mark

Anyone have any real world experience with this?

We have a project it may help us on and Kodak's help is vague.

Thanks in advance!

We upgraded the firmware in our P7000, have not seen the new cartridges yet but they are probably running down inventory. All our cartridges have been chipped so I'm sure all will work fine.

Before this, we did have 2 cartridges with bad chips and we could not use. Epson wanted a signed letter from the Pope for a return se we had to eat them.

Quote from: AaronH on July 26, 2023, 04:23:42 PMOur shop is G7 certified. We had one customer have a difficult pantone yellow that no-one could replicate, even the ink manufacturers can't make this pantone (actual pantone) the same every time. Every color book we had was different out of a batch of I think 5 brand new books at the time, none of them were the same. We had the customer come in, pick which one they liked, and made up CMYK builds and print out a sheet of different swatches we made up and got one that matched for coated and uncoated stocks. a bit of a headache, but at least their stuff looks the same across the board.
We did this exact same process for a company's blue color. Worked out great and they loved it.

Quote from: AaronH on June 29, 2023, 03:37:59 PMWe're getting a 10 color, UV, perfecting 40" Komori in a month or so and we anticipate work scaling up.
Aaron, What kind of color control will it have?

Its actually Agfa or eco3 whoever they are now.

It is literally a spiral shaped dot, supposed to save ink and get you on the counter sooner.

In an initial test, we found the dot gains go wonky because of the shape of the thing, went much higher.

https://www.agfa.com/printing/products/spiral-screening-for-commercial-printers/

Adding it to a prinergy workflow feels like a mess, we are just looking at it but it feels painful. We tried staccato form kodak, that is a year of my life i wish to forget. I believe we fingerprinted every three weeks.

Anyone using this? We are testing it. Does not seem to be worth the cost.

Thanks,
