Title: Imposing Head to Foot
Post by: ksm1701 on August 24, 2018, 06:07:59 AM
Hi all,

I'm trying to impose an A4 landscape job, wiro-bound on the long edge with a head to foot imposition to avoid having to faff and rotate pages either in XMF or in Acrobat.

XMF doesn't seem to want to allow me to do this and whenever I rotate a page in the imposition the reverse page also rotates in turn.

Does anybody know a way to get the pages to rotate independently of each other?

Thanks in advance guys!  :hello:

In Preps you would have to use independent pages. Not sure if XMF has an equivalent to that or not.

Thanks Joe.

I know you can (or at least could) easily do it in Signastation, but XMF seems to link rotation changes made to the front to the reverse unfortunately.

I've been using it for three years know and still get annoyed with these frustrating quirks the software has!

Double click on the pages in the Reading Order and you will see the rotation buttons
you can rotate individuals pages there before the impo

Thanks Tracy but ideally I'd like to rotate the imposition rather than the pages.

Finicky I know, but that's just how I roll ;)

Unfortunately, what Tracy suggested is the only way to do it. In Imposition View, Editing the Imposition Layout, there's a check box to "Link edits to Front and Back surfaces", however, this only allows you to change what page backs up what, not what orientation they are in.

That's what I arrived at too, like Aaron says, unchecking the "Link edits to Front & Back" doesn't work with Tumbles for some reason.

Now, you could always make a little Action to "Rotate Pg 2" under the "Preflight & Action Lists" in XMF and apply it to the Template, if it's something you do often enough and don't want to think about.

Alternatively you can choose to rotate all odd or even pages by rotating the odd or even page you need to, then apply that to the pages you need with the button to the right of the rotate buttons.

Most head to foot I do, I rotate the pages to the left in the pdf (Heads left)
if you turn the pages like a book all heads will be to the left with the possible exception
of the last page depending on the item.

Thats a really good idea Tracy! I'll have to keep that in mind next calendar we get. We usually do what I described which can cause some headache trying to figure out the impo.

Thanks for all the replies guys.

As mentioned earlier, I often impose jobs like these using a portrait page orientation and then cheat by rotating the landscape pages anti-clockwise by 90ยบ (with the exception of the back cover page).

Guess I'll have to chalk this one up to one of XMF's more 'unique' features and just continue cheating it!

I used to fight with calendars up until I figured out it was much easier to spin the pages needed in acrobat.

Calendars is a good example! all heads left except the back page is usually heads right!
