Adobe InDesign / Ink Manager and Spot Colors
July 30, 2010, 12:29:41 PM
Forgive me if this seems elementary, but back in the day I had to do this manually and old habits die hard I guess. :old:

Had a customer send an Indy file with 3 different seps for Pantone 269. We use a custom spot 269 on our Nexpress for them so I started re-mapping them all to the custom name. Then found this in the ink manager:

1) In the Ink Manager highlight the sep you want to remap.
2) Click the Ink Alias drop down menu and select the sep you want to remap to.
3) Click OK.
4) Verify with Separations Preview.

The remapped colors still show up in the Swatches window but should disappear from the sep preview.

I love learning new tricks!

Here's what I use for static barcodes. If it's variable, then I have to go a different route. Hope it helps.

Kodak Systems / Re: Old School Dolev 450 Question
May 27, 2010, 08:02:24 AM
Thanks guys. We looked through the menu settings on the device and couldn't find anything related to minimum film feed. We did find something in the output device menu. Seems the 450 has an option for an additional cassette that the 400 doesn't. Oh well, its not my problem anyway as its not in my shop.

Kodak Systems / Old School Dolev 450 Question
May 26, 2010, 07:34:43 PM
Hey guys. I'm hoping someone with old school experience can help us out.

A friend at our die cutting vendor uses a Dolev 400 and a Dolev 450. The Dolev 400 cuts the film off about 1" larger than the page size. The 450 cuts the film off at 18" no matter what the page size is. An 8.5x11 has 7" of clear behind it. She's using a PSM 7.1 RIP and all of the settings are identical.

Any ideas as to what we may be missing? She's getting tired of wasting so much film. Thanks for your help.

CMS - Proofing - Printers / ColorBurst Anyone?
May 19, 2010, 12:44:52 PM
I was wondering if anyone has experience with Epson's Colorburst bundle? I know it probably has many features disabled so I am expecting to have to upgrade to at least the X-Proof version. Also expecting to have to purchase an i1 for profiling, etc. Thanks for any input.

Hey everybody. I was wondering if anyone can recommend or relay their experience with large-format production rips? I have used Best Color and Oris Color Tuner in a pre-press proofing environment but not in a high capacity way. I currently have a demo version of PosterJet and am talking to Onyx.

Right now I am printing straight to the individual printers (Canon iPF700/8000) but we are aggressively marketing our poster capabilities and I need something more efficient. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.
