What the hell is causing this?

We recently went to CS6 and now often time when i generate art in Illustrator and save as a PDF, my preview window only shows a silhouette in black.
Is it caused by a setting? Two of my compadres have no issue with this, and one does sometimes, but not always. Old archived PDF versions display fine, as do customer supplied stuff.

Is it the preview only that is the problem?
output is ok?

I had something weird yesterday, when I opened my output preview in acro
the text disappeared, fonts were not embedded (japanese text) but I have never
seen text disappear before.
Mine did not output ok tho.

Grimace

Yeah, if I open the file it displays correctly and prints correctly.

I may have stumbled upon a fix, from Apple no less. Just (5 minutes ago) installed the latest OSX update (10.8.4) and the issue went away.
Fingers crossed.

Running Acrobat X with OS X 10.8.3 here and have never seen that.

Joe, are you also using CS6? It all started with Illy CS6. Gone for now.

Joe

Yes, CS6 but not the Cloud...yet.

We have it installed on 14 Macs and I've not heard any complaints of that particular problem on any of them.

well, when a Mommy spider and a Daddy spider love each other very much... wait a minute. You should have covered this in 6th grade.

How many beers tonight, Corn?

I just opened a 10 month old Stone 16th Anniversary IPA (best I can get out here in the high desert). Still good! Can't say the same for the Monkey Fist I poured last weekend. Tasted like paper.

Oddly, I just got done reading the 5 page Blues Brothers link someone posted on here earlier. I start vacation tomorrow after work. I'm so fucking blitzed right now. It's 10:30 here in Cali, and I have counted 11 bottles, all since 8 pm. I'm gonna be so hungover tomorrow as I have no intention of stopping until I pass out.

I had a huge fucking stress day as Onyx fucking sucks ass, as does trying to feed the Epson S70670. Plus I was retraining the same fuck who forgot his own name who filled in for me last vacation and required twice as much work to fix (as I had to tackle all his shit again plus new work). I told the wife tonight before she left for work, tomorrow I'm going in and telling the boss, I am done fucking around with that until I get two full fucking days of training and know the shit inside and out better than the fucking (insert racial slur here) who built it.

In short, Onyx sucks ass. The fucking software wouldn't do shit, and I called Agfa, who trained me all of 3 fucking hours... they said call Onyx. I called Onyx, and they said, "call Epson." So I called Epson, and they said, "It's our product (Onyx) and we'll support it, but anyone who knows anything isn't here right now... and we can't stay with you on the phone while you (fucking) struggle though (all the painful stress) feeding it."

I decided it was a Windows 8 issue and cursed Bill Gates and his mother 1,000 times, so I reinstalled on a W7 box, which promptly crashed 1,000 more times while I taxed the shitty Intel i5 processor. In short, everyone is out to get me, I hate my fucking job, and thank God it's vacation time, because for the next 7 days, fuck the world; I'm gonna be in an inebriated haze, and it'll have to be a memory my kid represses, as the wife divorces me and I die alone.

I've never used Onyx, but have used FlexiSign, which I found to be simple as shit, in about every respect.

My manager here swears by Onyx, and has run a department full of big fancy printers driven by it. He has G7 certification, and applied that knowledge through Onyx daily. He's been trying to get the owners here to spring for it but for now we're stuck with EFI.

Maybe when you're not super drunk I could hook you up with him and he could help pull your head out of your ass.  He's a bit busy though, I'll run it by him if you want.

My head is not in my ass. Epson/Onyx/Agfa's heads are in their collective asses.

I reinstalled this thing back to W8 because I forgot that it needs the power of the i7 and the i5 in my W7 box wasn't cutting it (clearly). The main problem is no one wants to take ownership for training and support. If I could get one person dedicated to one full day (and not 3 hours), or have a forum/phone number of someone who knows something, I could nip this in the bud and be done with it.

Told the boss this morning that if I don't get additional support/training I'm going postal prepress. Oddly he was surprisingly supportive and understanding. I basically showed him this morning the pitfalls and what I know about it so he can struggle with it while I'm on vacation.

I'll be back on the 17th. Let me have one day to survey the damage while I'm gone, and on the 18th I'll be ready.
