Adobe InDesign / Re: Publisher

Seeing as there is no easy way to convert and they do not want to spend the money on something that can convert, what is the issue? Just tell them it will take X amount of hours to reset and format so it is print ready. They can then decide if the job is worth it to them or not.

Quote from: Joe on April 08, 2015, 02:48:03 PMActually it is available through CC:

[attachimg=1 width=400]

And if I do that update it does replace Acrobat XI. I did that at home but can't at work because the Kodak plug-ins are still 32-bit and there are no replacements for those at this time.

I miss typed, it should have read "now available" not "not available".

New Adobe Acrobat DC is now available via CC. Completely new interface. It is much faster then the previous version. I have both installed, a glitch via the install for DC did not delete Acrobat Pro 11. Others report that it does delete the previous version in a normal instal.

Digital Printing / Re: Special Queues on a DC260

Hotfolders should be what you want. I have never used them, but the basic idea is to create a workflow that you can just drop a file into and it does the rest. From my understanding, you do not really print to them, rather drop a file into the hotfolder itself. So you would create a Hotfolder on your Fiery, create all the actions you want it to do, then when you drop in a file, it does what you told it to do and prints it out without needing to adjust settings each time.

Quote from: Joe on March 20, 2015, 03:07:12 PMI am not seeing any issues like that. Just wondering if you did the in-pace upgrade from the previous version or a clean install. I always do the clean install to avoid stuff like that. Out with the old...in with the new.

It happens on a clean install on my 5k iMac, it happens on my updated install on my Retina MacBook Pro, it happens on an updated 27" iMac and a clean install 21" iMac. I still work on this OS, and the only reason I installed it on the other machines was that it gave me no trouble for a month when I was testing it out in production on my machine. It does not render any of these machines unusable by any means, they are just annoying bugs that are not usually associated with OS X.

Quote from: wonderings on March 20, 2015, 02:12:42 PMYosemite has been the glitchiest OS Apple has released in a long time. I am really surprised that they are dropping support for anything past 10.9.

I use Yosemite daily. Doesn't seem glitchy to me.

Random Safari crashes. The wifi dropping was fixed with 10.10.2, as well as the bluetooth dropping. I randomly have my desktop folders and icons disappear. Mail prints strangely to our office printer, Xerox DC260. Will print just the email sender and subject on page one and the rest of the email on page 2 with attachment. Also the text can be super small when printed from Apple mail. It is not consistent, some things print fine, others do not. Happens on more then 1 machine. I love the look of Yosemite and some of the features, but it is buggy, plenty of threads on mac forums and Apple Support forums. It is without question the best looking OS Apple has come out with. Just waiting on a few updates to get the rest of this sorted.

Quote from: Joe on March 20, 2015, 12:54:55 PMI hadn't even thought about that setting since changing the forum software. It was set to 10 posts before not requiring the verification. I've changed it to 3 so you should be good to go now.
Thanks. I thought it happened every single time you posted, not just till you reached a certain number of posts. I would not have said a thing if I had known that. I have never seen that function on other forums. Thanks though!

The Mac Minis are ok, but you are limited. It maxes out at 16 gigs of ram and you can no longer upgrade that after purchase. Also, there is no option for a GPU, no upgrades at the time of purchase. For me personally the bare minimum is a 21" iMac. I like the 27" partly because of the screen size, but also because you can at least upgrade the ram and not limited to 16 gigs. Also the specs and GPU are better.

Side note, do we really need the verification after every reply? Taking me 5 tries to respond to a simple post. No need for Fort Knox security here.

Windows 10 looks like a solid OS and follows the tradition of every other OS release to be a good one. Win XP good, Vista Bad, Win 7 good, Win 8 TERRIBLE, Win 10 looks very good. I have it installed in Parallels on my Mac and will be installing it on a PC I fiddle with at home that is running Win 7. Microsoft has come a long way and their OS has improved greatly. Anyone can install the beta of Win 10. If you have the latest version of Parallels on your mac, it does it all for you from downloading to installing.

We have 2 27" iMacs in our prepress. They are great all in one machines. You just need to be content with the specs you get. The only thing that is user upgradeable is the RAM (only on the 27" models). My iMac is a maxed out 5K iMac. At the moment I would not recommend it for prepress use, not until Adobe updates their software to run well on this amazing display. I upgraded from a 15" Retina MacBook Pro, 2.6 i7 with 16 gigs of ram and a 1 gig GPU. The iMac that it replaced is a 4ghz i7, 24 gigs of RAM, AMD Radeon R9 M295X 4096 M and a 1 T flash drive. With indesign, it is only marginally faster, in most things, and some things it is actually slower. The older 27" iMac, none retina runs great with Adobe CC. I do have Quark 10, but I never run it. Who uses Quark anymore anyways??

CTP - CTF / General lifespan of laser diodes?
October 05, 2010, 01:31:32 PM
Just curious to what the average life span would be for the presstek dimension laser diodes. Cannot seem to find any info on this in any of the literature they gave us on our machine, or with a google search. Anyone have an idea?
