Hoping to get a new category to ask random tech questions like this...but here for now.

Have bought an old-style telephone receiver custom-made to plug into my (hand-me-down), iPhone. Have tested another working receiver, and have narrowed the problem down to the female socket in th iPhone. What's happening is that I can hear the person who's called me/person I've called, but they can't hear me. So there's a connection problem outgoing. Could be a dry joint, or just could be  dirty. Have tried cleaning it out with a spirits-wetted rag on bamboo skewer. I may devise a way to use fine abrasive in there somehow. If you press harder, you get intermittent outgoing signal. Could actually be solder has parted.
Any thoughts, b4p techies?    :grin:

Oh, it was working OK for a few days.

Frailer, translated.  :grin:

Don't have an answer, but thanks for starting this category. It seemed dumb putting certain topics into "general prepress" when they're really tech related.

old-style  = Me
plug into my hand  =  won't go there #1
female socket  = won't go there #2
dry joint  =  one that's been in the bottom drawer too long. Prolly choke on it.
dirty = dirty
spirits-wetted rag =  methylated spirits on a ....
bamboo skewer  =   :huh:  Well, they usually have marinated lamb on 'em here.
devise a way to use fine abrasive in there somehow = self-explanatory, surely
press harder = won't go there #3
"solder" has "parted" = prolly a boy thing, if one is allowed such comments these days.

Ah, gnubler, aren't you occupied enough with those reps that's been coming around. Or is this letting off steam afterwards? Glad to be of help.

Cool. Can we jack the thread now? I'll let someone else start. Here's a keyword: banana

There is no thread in the jack I just cleaned out. You're confusing me.   :huh:
