color bars in the perfecting layout

I'm exploring Preps right now and it is going pretty good. One problem so far is when I choose "Perfecting" it puts the colorbars at the bottom of the sheet on the backs. I need it to stay on the top, as if I was running it Sheetwise. The pressman say if the colorbars print on the same side of the sheet for the front and back, it gives the scanner false readings from bleed through because the ink is still wet, unlike running regular sheetwise where the ink has time to dry. I beg to differ on that but if I can I will. Any way to do this in Preps?

Yup...age old problem.
You need to add the color bar to the front only and then add that same bar to the back only and rotate 180 degrees.

It still moves them to the opposite sides. I think I need step by step instructions.

Well thats the thing...you see, you can create a smart mark set that includes both of the bars you just setup and you can add them with one click to every form.
I think you have a ways to go before learning that but it is a game changer for sure.
You could also include a slug or any other mark you wish and add them all at once.

Also, don't forget that the gripper on the reverse of a Perfector is also opposite. On the front, you can't run off the tail like a Sheetwise, because it ends up in the gripper on the other side, so you have to move down the color bar on the top of the sheet. We used to run our color bars through the middle of the sheet, but I can see from your impo that's not an option.

never liked color bars anywhere but back edge. Had a previous sales guru who was an expert on everything who insisted that color's bars should be run horizontal across centre of sheet in the gutter on work and tumble jobs.

I tried to explain it wasn't a good idea but was over ruled.

Because we just ran a block of 8mm square blocks of CMYK repeating across sheet, it tended to leave lighter streaks running vertically on any images or solid areas from the gutter to the back edge of the sheet.

Press operators absolutely hated it and the job was rejected by client because of it.

Sales guru was gone a few months afterwards.

Yea, Ive been running it just below the gripper on perfecting jobs, it's never been a problem.

We print the B Side first on perfecting jobs so you need the color bar at the tail or middle which we also do.
Preps will always put it at the gripper on side B when choosing perfecter as the type of run.
That picture i sent works out perfect (pardon the pun) its on the tail on each side...remember Preps is already flipping the pages for you once you choose perfecting. so you want the bars at the tail or middle if there is room.
You should always have your color bars at tail/back edge...middle if it is necessary, like on book block layouts that leave no room at the tail you will have double that space in the middle so it fits easier in that scenario.

We do the same. We have scanners on our presses and everything has to be at one side of the sheet or the other in order for the scanner to read it. But I guess they could fold the sheet and read it if I had to. Food for thought.
