At the paper I work for we send over 1 flat (4-up) pages at a time.  In the version of Preps we were using we were able to send 1 flat over at a time with the ability to label each flat going over to RIP as a designated letter.  In the Preps 5.3.3 we are unable to do this so each flat is sent over with the same name making it confusing trying to figure out which flat is which.  Thanks for any help.

So, you are printing out of Preps and no dialog appears after you either print to PS or save file as PDF? What platform?

No, he's well within his rights to diss cake. Pie, on the other hand, is waaaayyyy off limits.

We are using OS X Snow Leopard.  The files are already imposed in Preps 5.5.3.  I hit print and the print dialogue comes up.  I print over to the RIP and all of the flats have the same name.  It doesn't allow me to name each flat separately as I send them over 1 at a time.

Using Preps 5.3.3 on OSX 10.5 and 10.4 never seen that behaviour. Didn't know Snow was out yet??

Oops, meant Leopard.  Is there supposed to be a box that pops up that allows me fill in the comment field?

Thanks that's it.  The Print File ID box is not popping up for me.  Maybe time for a reinstall.

KappAdv

Which version of Preps do you have?  Plus, Pro?

tapdn

both... and it works the same. Say you have a preps job named "Job1234" which is a 16 page, 4-up and you want to print the first flat you put in print pages that contain page 1 and in Print file box you put in "page 1" then your printed file will ne named something like "Job1234_page 1...".
Have you modified your default profile?

Probably haven't modified it.  I do put the name of the flat I want example.  Job1234_FlatA.  When I view it at the RIP it just comes through as Job1234.   Hmm, I'll have to mess around with the profile.

tapdn

I wouldn't unless you are sure of what you are doing/ want to do there. It is a text file and can be modified with some text editing app like BBedit.
Could be your rip is just shortening the name.

FWIW, we have just moved to 5.3.3 from 5.3.1. Also new op. here, departed one one was the PREPS user before...I'm rusty as hell. Me now Dyna-boy.   :embarrassed:

We have had odd flakiness, not sure whether us or the upgrade. Hope to further track it today. Yep, print by Side, under PS In and Out route should give you summin like ...00002B. ...00003A ....00003B.etc... I too hate stuff on the RIP under a common file, which then has to be tree'd down to a useless P1, P2....
At the moment we have missing Templates messages, stuff like that, which Joe has pinpointed as a probable moving/renaming problem.

...if any of this is relevant.    :undecided:

BTW, tap, still    :sleepy:   time over at GUA Forums...

You can change a lot of that stuff by editing the default profile Frailer. Just be careful to leave the default one and do a save as. Like all those 0000 it puts in front of sig side. Open it in BBedit and have a nosey.

After our upgrade, we had to set the output to Divide by Output set to Tile.

We were getting just one file otherwise.
