It is with great sadness to learn of the passing of Matt Beals on February 15, 2020. May he rest in peace.
Sad to hear. He was a smart and helpful guy.
Wow, I am shocked.
I don't know the circumstances but I hope he did not suffer.
May he rest in peace, Matt was a good guy.
Matt was diagnosed with brain cancer last year and had undergone both radiation therapy and chemotherapy and I believe he also had surgery.
Sad to hear. I knew he was sick, I saw some of his post about it.
He's been a part of our world for quite some time.
Cheers Matt, rest in peace my friend.
Oh wow, that's crappy. I remember the post now too, I don't suppose anybody was in touch with him or family?
That sucks.
Thanks Joe. I was unaware... he will be missed here. Gosh. :'(

I think it's been about 2 years now, actually. I think Joe knows my Matt story, but I will say that he was attentive and knew his shit. He was a helpful member of B4Print and a contributor to it's value and success.
I pray his family is ok, yes he was a very smart guy and very helpful too.
I remember when DCS created the "mattsignal". :rotf:

Youston had it all wrong. It was 8 people. :ninja:
I thought I had been mentioned as one of the original manipulators, but after re-reading it was actually Digital [redacted] Shoveler, may his memory rest in peace as well. But tracy? yeah... she is a troublemaker.
Yeah I have always suspected her of some tomfoolery around here. Now the cat is out of the bag!

whoa! 2010 I reread the whole thing.

A lot more lively, apparently.

Yes. Or in other folks words:

Hey Born2, what's that font on your "Einstein" avatar.... looks familiar. Or is it a hand-job? Looks like a font to me.
another thing that is crazy when I first came to B4 print I needed so much help
I was all alone in my first job since conventional printing.
everyone helped me so much, I have learned so much since then!
Born's fault!
(He sent me here)
Could that be the dreaded "Lucidia Handwriting"? Oh no!
::)
That's a good guess, apparently I made that a long time ago - rediscovered it today... inspired by nostalgia I guess
:rotf: or Papyrus-italic
Oh no! It's going from bad to worse!
So Albert must have invented it eh? Takes a genious to invent a font like that!
And it takes a genius to spell genius genious!

I was solo as well. I really needed Preps help from about 2004 on, since I was new to it then. About 2008 I stumbled in to B4Print looking for Preps help, and like a Jehovah's Witness, no one was able to get me to leave.
oh, and BTW we all missed Ear's birthday a couple days ago. Happy Birthday, Ear!

A bit? We acted like a bunch of 12 year olds. (or so I was told)
It sure was fun then. With the knives and all.

It's just the internet
So it has been said
Just a forum of geeks
Sharing tales of dread
But to me it is so much more
Friends
Friends with problems
Others with issues
Some trading beer
Some offering tissues
Some post A LOT
While others just listen
To me this is a place where we all just fit-in
It's just the internet
Don't take it as real
But to me this forum
this community
My friends
Are the real deal

Great poem born.
That really sucks. He was a really smart dude and from talking to him on hatebook and such he had an interesting life. He really knew his shit about PDFs and would also explain the hows and whys so not only did you get your answer, you learned something too. He's going to be missed.
I didn't really understand beyond he had something going on medically wise. He was always fighting it and overall upbeat. Guess when you're fighting shit like that you have to be.

Aw shucks Born, that was awesome!
That is an awesome poem.
I've met a whole bunch of different people on the net. Some even in real life. People say "that's not really meeting/knowing someone" but that's bullshit. There are some I know IRL that I don't "know". Hell, I got surprised by family that I thought I knew...
Through the net I'm in my present position running a race shop and honestly, have a new family through that was well. For a severe introvert, that's pretty good.
Family can and will screw you over worse than anybody. As far as the net, getting in with the right bunch of people (like this one) is definitely a plus, IMHO. Anybody who is an introvert or who has been just plain beaten down can find a voice and find they are worthwhile too. It does a lot for a person's psyche.
Not to mention, finding a group you can snark with .... priceless.

Well summed up, David. Yep, remember him from prepressforum days. He was often 20% sorta selling something, but boy was the 80% useful, mostly. He made you think about stuff often, rather than shoving it down your throat. Shitty and sad.

It's like a tribute to Matt Beals. If it didn't derail it would be disrespectful.
Gnubler coming back for my 65th birthday is quite an honor. If DCS returns today to I'll probably drop dead.
Well Happy Birthday by the way!

Isn't 65 the official retirement age down in the USA, like it is up here?
:cane:
Not anymore. My retirement age per Social Security is 66 years and 3 months. The younger you are the higher that number will go in the future.
Not anymore. They've extended the age you can collect max Social Security. They have it down to the month.
And Happy Previous Retirement Age Birthday, Joe!

They (Conservatives) tried to raise the age to 67 up here, but the Liberals backed it down to 65 again as soon as they were last elected.

Wanna
really feel old? If you're 65, and I'm 48, and I met you on here 12 years ago, then I'm still 5 years younger now than you were when we met.
