Quote from: Stiv on March 09, 2011, 11:46:52 AMOk, the issue was a conflict with Acrobat and XMPie. Apparently they don't play nice and IT had to remove a file somewhere.

The question I have now is where does XMPie pick up the PDF settings from? There isn't any place to choose what PDF profile to export to.

There isn't. I've been outputting to .ps and distilling pdf's for proofing forever.

If you'll look in your settings when you do a regular PDF export, you'll see there are two settings relating to XMPie -- XMPieQualityProof and XMPieQualityHigh. But you never have the option to choose between them, from what I've been able to tell. The uProduce server switches between them depending upon whether you're 'proofing' or 'processing' a job, but as a uDirect user with no server environment, I think you're stuck with distilling .ps files. If you find out any differently, please let me know!
Sorry for necroing this thread, but I thought I'd mention that my new version of XMPie allows me to use PDF settings that are set up in InDesign now. Still offers the XMPieQualityProof and XMPieQualityHigh, but I don't use those any more.
All I can say is that it is about time.

Quote from: youston on January 06, 2012, 03:32:39 PMI don't use it at all anymore, but I spent the last 4 years with my head all up XMPie's ass, so if there's anything you need, let me know. Maybe I'll be able to help. Maybe not.
There are times I feel like Mongo from Blazing Saddles when using XMPie (and wishing for a horse to punch). I just got all excited because I found out that XMPie has a findandreplace function :( Four years later I discover what would have helped me immensely from the beginning.
...but a pawn in the game of life...

do you use something else now and if so what and why?

No, I don't do any vdp anymore, and I totally miss it.

We pretty much looked at every vdp package out there, and -- four years ago, at least -- XMPie smoked every one of them. It was more difficult to learn, and I was very, very far from being able to say I was able to use all of its capabilities, but it'll do some wicked awesome stuff.

Good Gump, you are my new bestest friend.
I was given a 20 minute lesson on XMPie by the (gleefully) departing graphic artist I was replacing 4 years ago. Everything since then I have learned on my own, and there's always a great deal of pain involved. I haven't done anything others might consider super complicated but it sure has stretched my poor brain cell from time to time.

Adobe InDesign / Re: Plugins- CS5 cannot open file?

Had so much fun trying to downsave a Quark file on my boss' computer the other day. Didn't realize you had to actually select what version you were downsaving it to or else it would save it in the same version.
We've had a couple of InDesign 5.5 files come in and it took researching online to figure out why we couldn't open them in CS5.
