Does anyone keep track of percentage of plate remakes vs total plates made in a given month?

We typically hover around 10-12% with about 2-5% being prep issues, the rest are press, partials etc..

Any thoughts?

David

yes we do...

we actually sort the remakes based on a cause:
color retouching, text change, customer alteration, spoilage remakes (with who might have caused this like prep or press or finishing) just for example.

For the month of January, prep had .88% whereas the customer remakes were at 8%. We have about 10 categories we use for this listing report.

Cool, thanks how many plates a month do you average? We are typically 2,000 to 2,500.

We don't keep track of remakes. 2,000+ per month. I would say at least 95% are press errors (bent wrong, broke or trashed on a web wrap-up). Client late changes are 4% and prepress prep errors are 1% or less. I rarely have bad plates on my account. I make mistakes but catch them before plate, usually.

For the month of January, it was a smidge over 2000.  We have our busy months and slow ones. I think Jan. was a slow month
