We're moving ahead with the platesetter replacement, but we're keeping the old Screen device functioning too as a backup until we're 100% happy with the CRON.

Anybody add a CTP device to XMF? Ideally, I'm going to have both online so all new Jobs will route to the CRON, but if I need to send plates to the Screen I need to (easily) be able to resend plates.
Guess I need to get the existing plate curves out of Colorpath too, not sure who's going to do the calibration on the new plates though.

Bonus: We didn't renew our XMF Maintenance at year's end because we just hadn't used it in the last 2 years and I didn't see the need. Worst case I can do a call and pay eh ala carte price.

On a Windows Server, anybody ever used a utility to notify of particularly large transfers of files to a desktop on the same network? Ideally I'd like to set a threshold of a specific size limit for files leaving the shared server that would send an alert if such a transfer was initiated. Bonus points if it could prevent the transfer as well.

I've inquired with our IT contractor company too, the guy I discussed it with was a little uncertain so I'm not confident but we'll see.

Got a steaming pile that's about 8200 pages, within that PDF there many pages that are say 36x24" so they'd need to be rotated AND scaled to 8.5x11" - doable?

So, client wants a bunch of tix with barcodes - they have the data but can't tel me WHAT format the barcode's in - any idears? 

Short Ask: is there an easy way to duplicate hundreds (or more) folders but JUST the names?

Long Explanation: We're expanding our server storage and have decided we'd like to start "clean" with the exact same folder structure. Looking for a way to duplicate all the existing top-level folder names so we dn't have to manually make them all again. I know I can Copy-Paste folder names into a text doc, but not sure how to them re-populate a server structure with all those names.

Looking to replace an increasingly moody Screen 4300 (single feed) unit, the powers that be recently saw CRON at the Texas print show, and are looking at one of their auto-feed models. I'm unfamiliar with the brand, apparently it's well established in Asia and they've partnered with ECRM to get into the US market.

I've got some literature and of course the glowing sales pitch but really want some real-world input. I've asked at the Other Forum too, and I have an email out to a shop in TX that has one but haven't heard back just yet.

Iv'e used Fontnuke for yeaaaaaars to clear Font caches whenever things bet a little squirrely but it's not really supported in Mojave (or later I'd assume) so looking for something else.

Any prefs out there? Is it an option buried in Onyx some place?

Anybody in the Mailing game know about SOC 2 Compliance? Recently lost a decent sized job (after we'd been awarded it actually) because the client's lawyers said we HAD to have this, even though it wasn't sensitive date or anything that seemed that protected.

I'm going to ask around tomorrow, curious if it's standard for printers to have the cert.

Been having a LOT of problems with this today, it just hangs up the App indefinitely with small PDFs. It happened with a few different client PDFs so I don't think it's an incoming file problem.

Using the latest InDesign version, I think the script is up to date, it's the "00)MultiPageImporter2.5JJB.jsx" but it's from like 2011.

Not sure why, but many times using the Convert all Text to Outlines leaves some fonts live. Is there a threshold or reason why some would be left untouched? I can always use the Select Object tool and select all then manually Text->Convert to Outlines but it's a pain when there's multiple pages to be done.

Our Sign Shop wants all fonts converted, as do most outside sign vendors.

Pretty sure I know the solution (haul it to a Mac shop) but, has anybody seen anything like this with a late 2016 iMac? It's the base model, i5 3.2GHz, Radeon R9 M380 2GB, blah blah blah. In the first few months I had it, there were LOTS of weird graphic glitches, then it calmed down.

After updating to Mojave last week (may be a coincidence) twice now I've gotten this half-screen, and it also flickers so I can barely quit all the apps before I Restart. Once I just had to power-button it since I couldn't even see the menus.

I don't have any temp monitoring software and I'm not even sure if I did I could see it once the glitch takes over, but what's good, free & maybe captures a log file I can look at after I restart?

I mean, can it act like any other modern RIP? We frequently have to re-send files to the iGen because a Prep person has forgotten to turn off an FPO Layer containing scores/perfs/etc. set in a Dieline Spot Color Swatch. I know we can add colors to the User Libraries in CWS, but can it also recognize them as non-printing unless the Op tells them to print, like Proof Only?

This may be (hopefully) simple, but I doubt it. We're doing a saddle-stitched offset job where a few thousand of the first pages get a VDP imprint in a particular area, only about .375 x 4.30" and the text has to about 10 pts. I know it's easy to scale text in XMPie based on fitting, but is there any way to introduce a Line Break instead for the really long names?

Got a CSR asking me if a job from 4 weeks ago was plated, I don't archive small press jobs and they Auto delete after 14 days. Does XF make a Job Log for everyyyyything that's been processed/plated so I can investigate?

My assumption is that it somehow got pulled out of Production, then Invoiced but was never printed.

Anybody running an iGen 5 (preferably) with Command Workstation & have the APPE module also? We'd dealt with some weirdness last Fall with our setup not handling transparency well, color issues, a whole range of oddness. Finally got that all sorted out after numerous visits from various levels of Tech People then recently another Tech came in to address some issues and decided to blow out ALL of the RIP software, without ensuring a good backup first, thereby taking us back to Shit Central.

So now I've got one of the mid-level field support guys telling me we should be "Optimizing" all our PDFs before they go to the iGen, whatever the fuck THAT means. He's the same one that determined in the Fall that APPE was acting contrary to how it should be and we should just not use it - although I think it was a pretty expensive add-on.

Am I wrong in thinking that a digital press this expensive should damned well be able to handle 99.9% of files we throw at it, without having to do some half-assed "fix" before they get to the DFE?

Been using the new "Looks Black, Make Black" Action like a maniac and hit a few crappy Excel PDFs today it won't change completely. They al have this "Tiling Pattern" thing as shown. I can use  Acrobat's built-in Preflight "Convert Color to BW" and it seems to work, just wondering if the Pitstop Action can be modified or if there's another way?

Odd problem, been happening for months. Jobs sent from XMF will get hung up in the Print Spooler at the RIP, restarting the proofer will release them but doing it "gracefully" by waiting for the proofer to shut down via power button takes like 40 minutes. Many times we'll just yank the power cord and restart it.

I don't think it's a RIP problem, and if it was a network cable issue, just restarting the proofer wouldn't do the trick every time. Wondering if it's a bad board inside, the only repair person I've contacted wants almost $400 to just walk in the door.

Anybody used this reliably? I've got 21,000 barcodes to generate and NO other way to do it. I have the range generated in a CSV file, so I think it's just a matter of encoding properly in XMPie but the documentation makes no sense - of course.

Just wondering ,we're trying to ramp up & get it installed now. Thought we'd be able to use an existing server that's pretty new, but it's looking less & less likely. Getting prices for a new box based on the Enfocus Recommended specs, my inclination is to go higher since I'd rather not re-visit upgrading a server in use.

Latest Version 14.0.1 and suddenly whenever InDy crashing, either on its own or if I have to Force Quit (more on that later) ALL the Prefs get reset to scratch. The only thing that's maintained are the custom Workspaces, oddly. And now that I look, the Custom KB Shortcut Set is there too and intact.

I've remade all of those, closed InDy "cleanly" and restarted it to see if they'll hold but nope. I guess I need to keep a Backup of that Prefs file so I can sort of easily replace it every time it takes a dump, huh?

This version also seems a LOT more prone to freezing up, crashing for odd reasons too. I've had it lock up just printing jobs to the laser, previewing Seps, other things that caused no issue in the immediate previous version. Making me pretty hostile.
