When using the creep feature in Preps 5.3, do the templates made, need to be set up right? By that I mean, if you make a 16 page sig (8.5 X 11 pages) and you set them up as "flat work" will creep still work?

Best way to find out for sure is put in a huge creep amount and see if it works or not.

But I'm curious - why would you want your template to be flat work if it really is being used for saddle-stitch jobs? That means you can't re-use the same sig repeatedly.

Yeah, well I have 2 guys in the department that do most of the Preps work and we had a job in the past that we applied creep to and it didn't work right. After looking into what went wrong I discovered the template was set up as flat work (of course the person who created it swore to me he did it as a saddle stitch).

I just tried it using a saddlestitch template and a flatwork template. The same shingling was applied to both. No difference on the preview anyway.

Joe,
I hope this isn't asking too much, but could you give me screenshots of each step,
From the template creation to the Preps job?
It would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Lumpy

Here is creating a new 128 pg Flat Work template.

Here is creating a new 16 pg Saddle-Stitched template that will be used 8 times to create a 128 page job.

So for a 128 page book....for the Saddle-Stitched book you just add the template 8 times and the pages in your run list number from 1 to 128. Each signature would be a separate 16 page press run. For the flat work you add the 128 page template once and number your pages 1-128. Each flat would be a separate 16 page press run.

I am applying a large amount of creep for illustration purposes. 2" in the inner.

And here are the preview screen shots. The first two are the saddle stitch of the front back and the middle pages 64-65. Number three and four are the Flat Work of the front back and the middle pages 64-65.

If you were to try using a 16 page flat work template 8 times it would apply the creep to each 16 page section individually. That is why you have to create the flat work template as a separate 128 page template.

Thank you Joe.
I had one of the guys in the department create a 16 page sheetwise template. Rip the sigs before applying any creep to it. I then had him save some guides. Then applied the creep, viewed the monitor proofs with the guides, and the pages don't appear to be moving in the right directions.  Its weird.  I'm not at work right now, but I think I'll take some screenhots and show ya what I'm getting tomoorow.

Thanks again for all your help,
Lumpy

I just noticed that your create Imposition screenshot shows the pages as Head to Foot. We have ours Head to Head. That shouldn't do anything goofy to it, would it?

I actually created the template as head to head. I must have snapped the screen shot before changing that.

I've always used the inner creep and no mater how many forms as long as the creep was calculated correctly it would suck in the pages correctly. I've also used the scale(?) creep function on a 116 pgr. It didn't show the creep how I was used to seeing it but it worked fine.
