Title: Calibri
Post by: gnubler on August 12, 2010, 09:24:11 AM
The new Comic Sans for the 21st Century? Suddenly 9 out of 10 Word/Pub files I get are adorned with Calibri.

Let me guess...it ships with Windows 7?

Dunno...maybe because the masses tend to accept whatever is offered to them without thinking for themselves?

Default settings. I believe I will start referring to customers in this fashion.

I just checked. It is the default font in Windows 7 for WordPad. I don't have the real Word so I can't check on that.

"The real Word"

Nothing is real, Joe. It's all just ones and zeros. :toaster:

Yup, it's the new default. But then again I write all my emails in plain text which I think is still courier or times. None the less, what ever font they want that I can print so long as the check clears...

QuoteCould it be possible to see the font in something more like calibri?

Even when offered professional suggestions from someone with over 3,500 fonts they still pick the standard default. Baaaaaaaah...

I have banned our prepress guys (they have grown out of wanting to be called deziners) from using Arial, Helvetica (unless it's Neue Ultra Light), Times or any derivative thereof, Papyrus, Comic Sans and Teknon.

However, the amount of clients that ASK for these on the basis that they're 'classic' brings a lump to my throat.

Oh well I guess we'll just take the $$$

I had to ban myself from using Zapfino and Bleeding Cowboys. Now I see those EVERYWHERE. They're like the Comic Sans of the desing crowd.

I had to use it today to conform to a corp's "identity standards". :vomit: It had to be Adobe Helvetica Neue.

I don't see what the big deal is with Helvetica especially Neue - there are so many variations that it is versatile as hell. We're not trying to win any awards here, but when you need a clean readable font that comes in every possible weight and width, Helvetica Neue is my go-to font.
Times is nice because we all have it in our default set, so when you're typesetting some boring ass form or some generic piece of crap it just works.

now... Papyrus and Comic Sans, there's another story.

I'm working on a combo of both, it will be called PappySans'rUs.
It will be universally accepted and loved by all.

it's a "can't miss" idea!

that's not as much fun to say. I figure if it's fun to say, everybody will be sayin' it and usin' it!
Prepress is fun, remember?

I thought ComicPap was pretty funny. You could make it all Web 2.0 and call it comicpap'n beta or something. (must be all lowercase to truly be 2.0)

I would rather see a movie about Papyrus or Comic Sans. Helvetica is boring.

A movie about comic sans would have more bleeps than Goodfella's on broadcast TV.

No...it is the font conference one, with fonts taking on personae and arguing with each other.

Comic Sans is the hero.

Since German and Hitler have been mentioned in just a few posts I present this link:

It's the "identity standards" for the SS. ^ PDF is a 24 mb download.
