Nope. Once you unplug them from the PC the drive letters disappear and won't be seen on the Mac.

No I meant the letters, which I removed
and I named the disks the way I wanted to!

Thanks so much Joe
I'm ready to archive!

Archived a years worth of files pretty smoothly.

so If I clone Hard Drive 1 to Hard Drive 2
and put more stuff on Hard Drive 1 can I reclone without issues?

going to clone on Monday

I have so much room left on drive 1 it's going to hold so much more!!!!
sheesh you guys been telling me to stop burning disks for so long!

born2print

Sorry to chime in if I am uninformed, but could HD1 and HD2 be set up as RAID and then the redundancy would be automatic and instant with no need to clone?
How will I laugh tomorrow...
when I can't even smile today?

Joe

If you do it that way...when you clone it the second time it may tell you that it is either going to erase hard disk 2 or it will tell you there isn't room on hard disk 2. So basically I think when you clone it will clone the whole hard drive. Not just the new stuff. You will end up cloning the stuff that was originally put on hard disk 1 multiple times.

If you use a backup plan do a full backup from hard disk 1 to hard disk 2 the first time and then later do incremental backups so it only backsup new or changed files you'll save some time.

But cloning is faster so if you can wait until hard disk 1 is full before doing the cloning you'll save some time that way.

Also never fill the hard drive up fully. I'd leave about 50 - 100 gb of free space. Hard drives do weird things when they are completely full.

It probably could but she would need a device to put them in that supports raid setups. The device she has doesn't support raid.

ooh so glad I asked!!
Thanks!

Born, I have a Raid for my files, I'm using this new docking station to back up files that I use to burn to disk
but I think your right I could automate backing up, but I use my exterior USB for daily automated backups.
This is all new to me but shoo wee I see the benefits already, I had my "Prepress file" I use to back up that wouldn't fit onto 1 DVD

so easy peasy, so grateful!
