We are using cs6 but i think the problem would happen in 5.x too.

Got a file from somebody that REALLY KNOWS how to typeset in indesign with paragraph styles, etc. etc. Problem is, I have to add a little leading between lines to add some vertical space after deleting a line and when I do, it jumps down about a quarter inch. Even going from 12pt to 12.1 makes it jump.

Does this make sense or should I take more medication....

Probably a Drop-Cap or some other manual indent in place. Have you checked the Paragraph Styles?

... or for some odd reason the characters have an adjusted baseline

Yeah, checked out all those suspects. On further inspection, seems like the type is snapping to a baseline grid or something........

and that's what it was... the paragraph styles have a snap to line option checked. It makes the publication look very precise  but you can't tweak the leading in areas you need to without it snapping to the next 12 pt. line.

very creative of them to do it that way...     :sarcasm:
