Just to put things into perspective, the pump cap assembly, cleaner & flushing units usually runs around $250-$300 for each of our 7800's.  The rest is labor and travel. I don't have the time yet to try it out on my own (LOL) but this just might help you and others out there like us; it's a service manual for various Epson printers and includes what the error code means and solution.

So far, this manual is batting 1000 for the 3 last issues we've had since I found it. Too bad they didn't embed the fonts. :(

Quote from: Farabomb on May 26, 2015, 01:40:18 PMTech will be here thursday. 1k later we should have a proofer back.

Now I don't trust it at all as I know how epson works. This failed so I have a feeling other parts will be failing soon as well. If I manage to talk the boss into a new one, what one should I go with and should I get one with the spectro on it.

whoa! One grand to do maintenance? The maintenance kit & service for our 7800's is under $500 a pop. You guys getting Epson to service this or a third party? That should be routine stuff.

Heres the link: https://app.box.com/s/kqytkk8k8g1tfide7nzz2gxzi4o0zzlr

Apparently, Google shows there are quit a few sites that host the filename sscserve.exe. Again, I can't remember my source but Virus Total comes up with the same results as everyone else (the DNA scan result and user history shows it may just be a false flag). I would still try it out on a laptop thats used as a doorstop, just in case. Just wouldn't connect to the network since all it needs to connect to the Epson is a serial interface or USB.

FYI, there's also a PC based Epson utility our service techs use on their laptops to change those kind of parameters, but they need to be hard-wired into the printer using either a crossover cable or serial port, I'm not sure. I've tried the (cheat) codes and it didn't work for us. Maybe others, but not us. I did find an Epson utility to change these settings but haven't tried it yet and the source was questionable. If you want to be a guinea pig, I have no problem sharing. ;)

Digital Printing / Re: Indigo 7600 stability

OK, if you are looking for stability, you need to start by establishing a  controlled environment. Temps and stock need to remain at a constant rated temperature. Think of it as the foundation if you're pouring concrete footers. Does your environment meet this criteria? If yes, then on to the next question.

quick question just to get it out of the way; is your environmental conditions stable and within spec?

Then the only variable here is the process template settings. Something in the process template that's attached to the hotfolder doesn't match the other hotfolders.
#9
I guess I misunderstood. I read it as three files and two were ok but one was weak. I guess we would need to see the file in question and what the differences are in the process template.
#10
Long shot but, check the colors in question to see if they have LAB alternate color space (Pantone+) and see if it matches the other files that are OK (pre-refine). If it's different, modify your refiner to ignore the color recipe for the file.

We tried the soft proofing route in the pressroom a couple of years ago. What a complete, utter, miserable failure that was thanks to industry buzzword fags.

Never trapped files unless theres a problem with the registration adjustment on the device. Thats when you call in a service tech.

Have you done a registration adjustment? What printer?

CTP - CTF / Re: Trendsetter or Screen?

I was working at Jano Graphics in Ventura. Me and and another person went down to Long Beach for a week to learn the scanners and LinoColor sofware. Some of the best education I still carry with me to this day. Your name just seems vaguely familiar.

Quote from: Marktonk on April 14, 2015, 03:55:07 PMHi Farabomb,

The Suprasetter is designed and manufactured by Heidelberg in Weisloch, Germany. It is a complete family from a 20" CtP up to a 73" CtP. There are thousands of Suprasetters installed and we do occasionally offer used ones as well as I see dealers offering used. Please let me know if you have any other questions or if I can help. Thanks.

Best,

Mark

Hey Mark, this is a bit off topic but did you happen to be an instructor for the Tango and Topaz drum scanners & software down in Long Beach back in the late 90's?

Talk to your ink vendor. They should be more than willing to send out a color expert with all the tools needed get you profiled for free, or at least at a huge discount. I did this myself immediately after they put me in charge of the department.

EDIT: I just want to expand upon why these ink companies are really willing to send out color specialists at minimal cost. From my experience -and this is my personal opinion based on observation- most un-calibrated places will run their color under density because running levels over density is painfully obvious. This not as profitable for the ink vendors because of ink consumption. This is why they typically offer this service. I will say that after we got profiled using G7 spec and GRACoL standards, our density readings were much higher than we were used to. Color complaints immediately dropped off the board while press set-up time dropped dramatically. The ROI is immediate.
