Adobe Acrobat / Mixed Ink Swatch in Pitstop?
August 11, 2022, 10:58:21 AM
Is this possible? I've got a Canva PDF that has a cmyk build that they would like a Xerox Specialty Ink color mixed with to produce a custom orange. Unfortunately some of the art is raster so I have no idea how to fix this completely.

The Rest... / Re: Affinity Publisher 1.9

We'd use it here (would save us over $3,000 a year) except in the trial I couldn't find a way to view separations or check ink density. Another weird issue was that the data-merge issue of blank lines hasn't been addressed (the ability to skip empty fields/blank lines hasn't been added in). Lastly, data merge makes files insanely huge, but I didn't test that with master pages to see if it didn't make the file huge - it crashed on my m1 mac mini at work and filled the hard drive with what I imagine was a temp file, then when I rebooted it went back to previous hard disk space.

Besides that I liked the program a lot.

Enfocus / Re: Pitstop not working properly

Man am I glad this thread exists. This just started effecting me today. Most of this morning I could see my selections, quit acrobat (and most other adobe apps I had open) as something was hanging my memory it seemed. Then I couldn't see any selections. Thankfully I had a time machine backup from yesterday I was able to grab the old app and bring it forward. First thing I did after that was turn off automatic updates.

Naturally adobe won't fix this for, what, a year at least?

I've got an email in to my Fuji rep wondering when the Big Sur release is going to happen since we're like a month out now from a new Mac OS (I'm pretty sure anyway, Apple seems to release a whole version every September). Only response I've gotten was that he'll look into it, that he knows who to talk to. That was I think about two weeks ago...

Part of the problem from what one of their Fly-Fuji tech dudes was telling me earlier this year was that when Apple made the switch to only allowing 64bit programs to be installed (Mojave I think?), was that the software engineer guys did a super sloppy job coding it to 64bit for the Mac client. That's bit them in the rear end for the Big Sur and M1 move.

Here is a line from a job ad i saw recently...

Regularly required to stand; walk; sit; and talk, hear and see.

I figure i qualify for this.

Thats just disqualifying blind, deaf, and/or mute people. How rude!

Adobe InDesign / Re: Indesign calendar layout

This is my favorite.  :sarcasm: Customers send us printer spreads all the time. Even other printers. Now I have to break it apart to impose it for a 16 page fold, because your system is on a Xerox and can only do 4 pagers.

That would be the day. Reminds me of playing Elder Scrolls 5 Skyrim via Alexa.

General Prepress / Re: CMYK ink

We reprofile the presses every 3 months or less. The weather here in Eastern Washington is drastically different each season and we get presses that walk way away from their curves over time.

This might be what's happening on your end. Weather, ambient temperature, humidity all jack with everything.

Packing too. That's important, if their packing more or less than when your curves were made, you'll be getting very different results. If their also running dirty ink, (not completely cleaning fountains when switching from Pantones etc like our guys do) you'll have bad colors too.

I would love a feature like that. No idea if it does exist though. It drives me nuts.

CTP - CTF / Re: Fujifilm FLH-Z (G&J) Gum Pump Issues

I second the clogged line. We had an airbubble get in the line, and our older guy accidentally closed the developer line so it was causing all kinds of issues. Got a new pump, cleared the lines and everything has been great so far. I believe ours is the FLH-Z as well.

Macintosh / Re: Mac Mini for prepress workstation

We got a few new M1 Mini's at our shop. Only downside so far has been the XMF client, and if you use it their Measure App for the colorpathsync calibration web software doesn't work on 11.0+ at all, intel or m1.

I have a PC next to me to run XMF for the time being and Fuji let me know we're the first shop to adopt the new m1 Macs. they're working on an update for XMF that should be out sometime early spring that will work on the 11.0+ MacOS.

We got the cheap m1' minis (8gb ram model) and I kid you not, it runs everything faster (InDesign, Illustrator, photoshop, acrobat with Pitstop) by a lot, over our 2017 iMac 27" with the 4.2 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7 and 32 GB 2400 MHz DDR4 ram.

Until the XMF update, I'll be using the PC next to me like I said which sort of sucks, but hey. My old Mac is going to update our proofer/plater's station and move our FTP server to it (current FTP server is an older iMac running 10.4) when it bites the dust.

Macintosh / Super slow after last update...
November 13, 2020, 03:41:55 PM
Hey guys, all three of our iMacs here got an update to Catalina in the last day or so. Ever since, our computers are incredibly slow to open any programs or files for the first several (15-30 minutes) of running, then will operate as normal, then run incredibly slow again for no apparent reason. Nothing shows up in Activity Monitor, but it can seriously take several minutes to open acrobat, or XMF or anything. The little dock icon will bounce forever.

Any idea what could have happened? Restarts/full shutdowns don't seem to get rid of it.
