I updated my Acro on Mac to 9.5.3 last week. Since then, I have had multiple files get stuck in the RIP with no explanation, and PSP crashes all the time. This is even true in Acro X, which was not updated.  :wtf:

Am I just going through a really bad patch of .pdf files from multiple people, or did the update hose me?

Same here and no issues.

yeah - both 9 and 10 on one Mac. 10.6.8 like t-pat.

Rampage has been giving me fits with not RIPping stuff and being non-specific as to why. Looks like it might have something to do with font handling, but I outlined the files and still no good. I then .ps'd the files and redistilled and no good either. Then I tried opening in Illy and re-saving as a .pdf and no good.

These files are two-color (2 Pantones); a letterhead and three envelopes with a few lines of type and a vector logo. Nothing fancy. Barely even a trap in one spot.

Had it do this to other customer supplied .pdfs also - different customers. Eventually got the other ones to RIP by re-distilling the .pdfs, but the letterhead and envelopes won't go at all.

Just been the last couple of days.

Shit.

If I look at the Rampage unit during the erroring stage, it says something about eps to ps.

Just saved the file as a .ps and redistilled as Acro 5 compatible. That works.

Dropped the .pdf into ID and exported as .eps. That works too.

There's definitely a problem with "new" .pdfs.

[edit] Also opened the pdfs in Illy and saved as .eps - those RIP just fine too. But they won't RIP as .pdfs from Acro 9 or 10.

sounds like you need to be using pdf 1.3, which is the closest thing to an .eps file

I had been using 1.7 with no issues.

So it's the same but different? Just like exact repeats with changes.

well, if an eps works, (which is an "encapsulated postscript" file which doesn't support transparency), I would assume that you would be using a pdf of the same "flavor".
So, if you were using 1.7, what happened to make it not work?

I applied an update late last week.

I started saving stuff down to 1.4, 1.5 and 1.6 and it all works fine. It's only 1.7 that doesn't work. I'm thinking about uninstalling Acrobat 9 and X and reinstalling them. But that's a bitch because then I have to deactivate and then reinstall PSP, FP and PDFLib Blocks. And then I have to redo (or make backups of) my preferences.
