Has anyone run into a PMS color you can't AQ? I remember in the past reflex blue used to cause headaches but I remember being told they reformulated it and it's no longer a problem. We have a purple that's mainly violet and trans white and the ink guy is saying it can't be coated.

That is the question nobody is asking. The boss says violets have always been a problem. I don't ever remember hearing that before.

Coating burn out. They made a "special" coating for those colors. I don't know about the colors being reformulated. I'll ask the pressman.

Ok, it's not special coating it's a different ink. You have to ask them for alkali inks safe to use with AQ coating. Or fade resistant.
It's purples, reds and blues. I remember rhodamine red being a problem.

Yea, I remember reflex causing hell when the old place got nice new presses with coating towers.

I heard talk of oxidizing inks. it may have to do with the dumb expensive paper it's going on. Shine pearl stock and it's something like $4 a sheet or something.

We use Hostman-Steinberg inks that are formulated so that all Pantones and custom spots are ok with AQ or Matte Varn. I believe Flint makes a similar formulation.

That pearl paper seems to be "in" right now, it's a pain, especially for heavy coverage
read the specs on it, needs special ink etc...

Farabomb

Well we just switched from Hostman to some local place. We didn't have issues, the other place is cheaper. They also told the boss that a color didn't exist. While he was on the phone hearing the BS I found the ink and sent the link to the ink guy and the boss.

I heard there is some oxidizing ink or some sort that we are using. The cover of this book is a paint job solid. The cover is on the pearl and the inserts are on 100# text and we were told it has to match. We promptly told them that's impossible. This will be an interesting run.

We ran some sheets after we were done with a 4c job and it was fine. They said that shouldn't be possible but I'm looking at it.

We once printed a reflex blue paint job with AQ and it looked great until the next morning.

20 years ago a shop I worked at changed everything reflex to blue 072. The Print Manager said Reflex took too long to dry and no one would be able to tell the difference.

I've always been told that reflex blue ink is a pain in the ass because it takes forever to dry and even then it rubs / smears like crazy.

Wouldn't surprise me at all that it has issues with AQ.
