Not being on the TECHNICAL side anymore ... I'll give you my problem for the next 2 months:
We have a customer about to send 150-200 pieces of packaging to address Adobe's phasing out of PS fonts - Cartons, film (bags), labels ... You'd have to go through ALL 40 items that will be printed by you and rename every spot, likely 2-4 on each piece of artwork. As would each vendor (printer) we use for their specialty packaging.
(Note I said "a" customer, there's MANY more!)

It's not something you (prepress) should need to do, it IS possible sure ... but there are NO shortcuts here, every layout must have plates remade as we can't risk a word falling off a nutritional panel in the RIP - I've seen that twice.


It's something we can all work around (likely have), BUT if new files come in and night-shift do them or the other plant does ... will it be the same outcome for every new layout?

Only ask because (obviously my brain is random and) most of my month has been in corrugated layouts and when someone goes into 32nds that suggests it's an inside measurement, as opposed to outside measurements (un-assembled).

Approximately how thick is a sheet of board to read 175# with a caliper?

New MAC got here on Friday ... apparently when I pointed out our BEST operators all had a Mac, then  talked about and a sizable budget saving we've been tracking for the past 1.5 years ... someone was listening!

Are Thunderbolt 4 ports much (any?) different from USB 3?
I need a dock for my headset, cat6 cable, 2nd screen, etc ... they're pretty expensive, and massive overkill for the mundane things I'm plugging in to it. Also thinking about just getting a conversion cable to step down and use the old Hub.


For those who may want to say go with the new thing/s ... I have a reputation for stability, I plug my shit IN (old school), and it works so well, I'm not going to mess with it!!

Rumour is one of our printers just backed out of servicing our orders ... a few MM cartons now need to be re-sourced.

If those smaller (annoying) customers use paperboard they're in for a rough one.
I'm in for a hell of an August!!

If they are balking at $100 now and print is integral to their business ... they're dead, they just don't know it.

Interesting times ... In the past 5 years I've heard "Yes, we'll pay the extra!" maybe once a year.
In the last few months - it's become an every week occurrence!
