Do you drag-and-drop PDFs into the queue or do you Cmd-P Print them into the queue?

We impose onto the B2 sheet with QI+. The operator pulls it into the DFE and does his thing from there. He's seeing the difference right from importing the PDF, no changes on his end are taken before he can see the issue in the preview. It seems to be relatively consistent between the three prepress operators and how often he has to tumble.

What are you using for Imposition? Smartstream?

This is a slightly weird one and we haven't been able to find a setting that changes it yet.

There are three of us in prepress here. All have windows boxes, the latest Acrobat Pro, Pitstop Pro, and Quite Imposing+ 5.3. Our Indigo 12k operator has told us that almost every file I set up, he has to tumble because the DFE thinks it's head to toe. Some of the files M sets up he has to tumble, and almost none of the ones set up by J. We all have the same action lists and automations in QI. We use the same preflight profiles.

Is there a setting somewhere I'm missing that would cause this? I just went back to a job J had done without issue and redid it. Waiting for the operator to see how that file works. Files come from all sorts of sources, lots of different custies.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Adobe Illustrator / Re: Illustrator bleed issue
Last post by scottrsimons - April 16, 2024, 06:37:08 AM
When I try to make a new document with no bleed, I get exactly that. I'm not seeing a setting that would create that.
I did see a location to change the print settings, that had a spot to change the bleed settings.

But I also did find that you can have multiple document settings. And here is how to do it from Adobe.

Adobe Illustrator / Illustrator bleed issue
Last post by DigiCorn - April 15, 2024, 05:32:59 PM
On the latest build of Illustrator, I am trying to create a new document and I set the bleed to 0 all around, and when it creates the new page, it's adding 1/8" of bleed to the top. You can't set the document defaults like you can in InDesign, so how do I fix? It's not a deal-breaker, but it really is an annoyance.

Sometimes I wonder if they don't create the list of default options just to fuck with us users?

Tips & Tricks / InDesign/Acrobat/PhotoShop tri...
Last post by DigiCorn - April 15, 2024, 02:47:32 PM
Having been out of the game a few years, I ran into a couple issues today and discovered two new (to me anyway) cool tricks.

If you need an image from an Acrobat file (without any of the text or crap someone might have included in the file), open the file in Photoshop. When you get the preview window, tic the radio button that says, "images," (it defaults to whatever you did last). Voila - an unmolested image.

#2, in InDesign, which was freshly installed on my machine, the default setting for image handling was set to Auto-Fit "on." This meant every time I tried to edit the frame on a placed image, the image would resize and/or distort. To turn the default Auto-Fit, "off," it's not in the preferences - you have to go to Object --> Fitting --> Frame Fitting Options and turn it off there.

I do this frequently from my Mac at home to various Windows Servers and PC's at work.
Although i dont do a lot of file sharing.
No problems as long as your company firewall allows it.

We have Palo Alto firewalls and use the PA GlobalProtect Clients for VPN access and it always works flawlessly and fast!
