Vendor guy here had a call from another customer. Whole job printed where this font dropped out. Looks like a 'net download/dodgy one. Says it's Type 1.
We are testing customer's file here in XMF.
Sadly, they use ROOM proofing, though they have Black Magic. BM woulda showed it missing. Ouch.
When zoomed in, triangular centre in Cap 'A' disappears. When outlined, same happens. When rendered in XMF, font completely disappears.
Comments welcome. I can feed them back.

My only comment is that I have seen that happen a lot with crapware fonts floating about on the web. :death:

FWIW, fed back.      And, correction. I had it wrong, the whole font wasn't dropping out, just those (insert technical name for punch-outs in fonts). But enough to make it a hullabaloo, it seems.

So,  :drunk3: i send the job to the rip with live transparecy (v 1.7 or whatever) and it craps out with a memory error.

'Exploded' probably best describes the customer/printer dialogue.     Ugly fonts really are ugly, sometimes, on other levels. Glad I'm not them.

Here's the evidence....      http://www.fontspace.com/cathy-davies/goodgirl  Gets a 'T' rating. Tacky.

Whenever I have a font issue like that, I convert it to paths/outlines pre-RIP... if possible. If pdf and font not embedded, I'll just flatten and rasterize the whole thing in Photoshop. If font still drops out/doesn't image properly, then I kick it back.

Our customers don't like to be disturbed.  :sleepy:

Fixed.

I try to take every step possible to not have to disturb my customers. It's better for all of us.

Don't understand the ROOM proofing part of this....if it was proofed in a ROOM workflow, it shows the problem...right? If it shows one way and printed another....it is not ROOM.
Crap fonts are Crap....your workflow shouldn't show one thing, then output another....ever!

With a ROOM, if it's there after the initial rip there is no reason it should change down the line.

I've seen, in Prinergy, the fonts will look fine in the normalized PDF, look fine on the 600 dpi VPS and drop out on the 2400 dpi one-bit tiff. Go back and make the VPS at 2400 dpi and it drops out. The output resolution can have an effect on these things.
