I've been "working from home" since mid-March. Chemo puts me at a disadvantage. Kind of hard doing your job 13 miles from your equipment.  By dumb luck, I have a temp in place that I can shout orders to remotely.  We hired her to pick up the bindery slack which I couldn't keep up with, then suddenly shes the only body in the shop for a few months. I taught her all the bindery/finishing, but she has no training on the digital equipment because I did not see a pandemic coming in the future. 8 hours is hard to fill from my home office, but since no one knows what I really do anyway, it's easy to bullshit on the timesheet.

The shop has been really busy, as you can imagine for a municipality its been a non-stop shitshow of CV-19 prints and materials. Like, NON-STOP. The city has shed most of its employees, so I was expecting the work to drop considerably, but it's maintained.  Ironically, the print shop has been on the chopping block every year for the past 8+ years, and suddenly we are an essential division to keep the City's wheels turning. Who the fuck figured?  Hopefully they remember this at the next budget appropriations.

there is an option in the merge panel where you can omit blank fields. it wont print the placeholder if there is no data.  not knowing how the spreadsheet fields are formatted, this may be an option

Enfocus / Re: Scale oversize pages inside an 8000+pg file

yep.  I have a "preflight fixup" - in DC

I get a weekly 1800 page whopper with random sizes that needs to be normalized to LTR or 11x17, i use a "preflight fixup" - at least thats how i learned it - same as an action?

i have it scale anything under LTR size to LTR, and anything over LTR to 11x17 - this reduces all the maps and other bullshit people dont pay attention to, works like a charm.

cant remember exactly how i did it but heres a screenshot:

i found that app because half my archive is in pagemaker.. cross.exe will convert a macos PMD to a windows PMD.. Still cant find one that converts to InD..

I did find this mirror if you want to try..

Adobe Acrobat / pixelated text in Acrobat?
October 10, 2019, 11:25:55 AM
now the vector text is showing up pixelated in acrobat. its text, not rasterized, no font issues that i can tell. Prints fine though, its just the display on the monitor.. Seems to be a display setting in DC possibly?

where to look?

Side note...since you're shop is so outdated, I'm guessing you have one of the old green USB dongles for impose/compose? If so, don't upgrade past 6.3 or else the dongle will stop working. The newer versions of CWS will only accept the serial numbers for imp/comp.

this is good to know, i upgraded my workstation with CWS6 but hesitated on the RIP as CWS6 doesnt like the old canon9075 that we still use.

I was going to do it anyway as i dont need fiery with the canon, but if i did my impose/compose would have been hosed also.

You can manually do it by holding down the COMMAND key and dragging a corner of the box. Or hold down SHIFT+COMMAND while dragging a corner of the box to make the text resize proportionately.

This is much closer, if i could just automate it.  Looks like im reading about scripts this weekend.
