Anyone see any reason to keep any of these?

Adobe Acrobat / Annoying window
February 05, 2020, 08:48:21 PM

My compadre keeps getting this popping up when he has PDFs open.

Any clues as to how to kill it?

CMS - Proofing - Printers / Black Magic_Epson 7900 Pro
January 29, 2020, 11:03:57 PM
I *know that bi-directional printing, (our default), is run from BM, not the Epson.
Our 7900 Pro has started randomly doing uni-directional.
-it's sloooow
-it's annoying, as the return is speeded up, and whines upwards!

Can someone tell this dumkopf where it is/pathway in Serendipity Client?  Grrrrrrrr!
It's buried somewhere.... I thought Workbench, but so far eluding me.

Thanks!

Fujifilm XMF / Size reversion on tweaked SST
December 06, 2019, 10:42:19 PM
My co-worker had a job that was to be 160(W) x 240 (H) [mm].
He brought in a Stripping Sheet Template (SST), at 150x240... a regular size for us, and changed it in Sigs to 160 . Applied it to the 16pp.
He also (I think) used SSTs for the preceding two 4 page sheets, (which did not experience the problem I'll describe).

The problem was that, according to him, when it was queried (you know that moment when they walk in waving a sheet "what happened here?"), the tweaked page dimensions in Sigs showed the altered 160mm W, but rendered at 150 W. Ouch. Thing is, being only 10mm diff., it went through to bindery where it was noticed on the Stitch trimmer. (well... yeah). But when he *then did a re-render it *did go to the wanted 160.
If he'd changed it (which he's saying he did, and on opening it indicated he had), how did it render at the incorrect size?
This may of course be a bug in XMF where using 'tweaked' SSTs has an element of danger to it.

The *only extraneous issue may have been that we had a power outage on the preceding Sunday (no UPS), and I'd had to button up from scratch on Monday morning. But I guess that's wishful thinking.

...edit 9th Dec. ... thinking some sort of quirky (undiagnosable) PICNIC problem.

Macintosh / Screenshot formats
November 11, 2019, 04:33:29 PM

I use Cmd+Shift+4 > marquee a lot. Defaults is PNG. Anyone knowhow to change the default to .jpg? Can the res be set, if so?

PNGs tend to be big files.

General Prepress / Chromium PDF
November 06, 2019, 03:51:15 PM

Compadre's been given a PDF to 'try and make vector'.

Cmd+D gives 'Skia/PDF . ... Producer 'Chromium'.

What, and from whence cometh, this ugly beast?

The Rest... / Ubuntu
May 13, 2019, 09:44:06 PM
Son's letting Apple go. He's been talking to some other nerds in his digital graphics/audio installation team when he was in NY doing an install there in a large foyer, who are more up on that stuff than he was, and has already taken delivery of a Lenovo from a mob in Melbourne with a version of Ubuntu installed. He's gone to a Sony Android phone.
Thinking about it myself when the time comes.

Adobe Acrobat / Sticky Spot referencing
March 25, 2019, 07:26:17 PM

Parent office dezinger peep's passed on an over 1GB PDF file for a new and well-known show about a well-known book series (Shhh)... In fr UK. For some unknown reason they have the Spot as 1255 (gold). We need to run/print 875.

OK, no es un problema... I run whatever's required... Change Specific Col ... whatever. But no matter what I do in the way of resaves/save as... it still references the unwanted 1255 in Output preview.

It's being printed on a larger press, so gotta send it out. Have been through all 48 pp looking for occurrences of the 1255. None.

All we can do is tell their pp that there's none present. It's 'ghost referencing', right?

Fujifilm XMF / Whole of job corruption upstream?
December 07, 2018, 03:44:58 AM

Recent upgrade (am at home, so can't access details). 1 year old Screen PlateRite.

Occasionally, when we have a plate error, and it's rectified, we have Fails showing up, so only maybe one of the seps is blacked-in for re-output (or continued output).
Sometime, in these situations, you'll get a "Unable to release Separations die to yada yada being Active".
No big deal, you wait till it's done, and then you can choose one of the other drop-down options, and output the others, or, re-render the side, and then select the missing colours for output.

My compadre today had a situation where none of the as-yet-unreleased sides would output. Ended up having to delete the whole job, and bring the PDF in again, set up the Templates/copy (we use SSTs, rather than whole job templates; it's more flexible). Clean slate... output the ones not yet run.

OK, it's resolvable, but messy.

Anyone have experience where a corruption after plate error seems to have actually corrupted the whole job?

Windows / Office 365 Outlook
December 05, 2018, 09:45:44 PM

We were changed over (enterprise level) last year, so no longer running Mail.

Is there a way of doing a search field/select so that all emails prior to a certain date be selected, then Trashed?

ATM I'm finding that if I try a Shift-Select by scrolling out of view, it doesn't pick em up properly. (could be me...).

Adobe Acrobat / Using DC apps when internet down.
August 22, 2018, 04:26:24 PM

Is this:

-not possible?

-sorta works, but could be flaky? (my co-worker's claimed experience).

-yeah no worries why are you asking?

Macintosh / Lost Time Machine drive.
August 07, 2018, 05:47:48 PM

...at home. Son set it up, but it's seemingly dropped off the MacBook. We also have a Mini, which I use (wife uses the MacBook).
We have it hooked USB into the Mini, (TM runs on a 1TB drive). To MacBook via WiFi.

I'll have a proper look tonight, but general steps/clues? I guess start in network Settings... Time Machine Prefs... stuff like that...

Thanks in advance...

Macintosh / Secure delete
July 17, 2018, 11:40:03 PM
My compadre here tells me that this has been removed by Apple, maybe about a year ago?. The one which overwrites the deleted material.

If so, then probs under NSA instruction/pressure.

I haven't been using it, though he has been. Not sure what the keyboard combo was. Someone here may know what's happened with it.

Fujifilm XMF / Font issue PDF just sits there...
July 11, 2018, 05:50:06 PM

Uploaded a PDF without running a check on it, (naughty, I know), and it wouldn't be processed by XMF because of this. Fine, no problem, can backfix and reload.

Thing is, it won't delete. Yet when I run the replacement in, all goes to plan without interference, (AFAICT). I'd prefer it deleted, as it's a non-compliant file, and don't know what it may affect, in the background.

No doubt a bug, but anyone else experienced

Fujifilm XMF / 12 page Sheetwork_fixed?
July 09, 2018, 09:17:56 PM

In the past our Stripping Sheet Templates for 12 page Saddle Stitch appeared to notate the wrong 'side' in Management Info. I.e., Backs were, as far as I'm concerned, marked as fronts, and vice versa.

This appears to have been fixed since we upgraded our Whole system.  This may have been because the SSTs were home-made, and not from their stripping templates folder. Not sure.

Fujifilm XMF / Archiving, but no green tick
June 13, 2018, 10:06:00 PM

We do selective manual Archiving here, (the Archiving utility inside XMF), to external drives.

At some point, Archived jobs have started not showing the green tick in the Archive column of the Queue/Jobs window.

Anyone experienced this?

I'll email the Fujifilm tech, but thought I'd air it here as well.

On v6.6.0.2 (as flagged in Client app info).

Fujifilm XMF / java and 3D Export
May 13, 2018, 10:39:50 PM
We used to be able to Export these before the move to current XMF and new iMacs. I've followed the prompts to download (see screenshot for no-can-Export), and have, I assume, downloaded JRE.

Have done a restart, but it's still not Exporting. I've emailed Fujifilm Graphics software guy, but thought I'd drop this here
in case someone has some thoughts overnight.

Thanks....   :hello:

Adobe Illustrator / No free WOPD anymore?
February 06, 2018, 07:37:52 PM

The 'Detector' used to be a freebie, the fixer a cheap purchase. Anyone confirm this...?

http://www.worker72a.com/pages/WOPD.html

Compadre here has sussed that a Head Office dezinger had an outlined character set to OP, the other 5 sides of the box are OK.

He got lucky; it's the bottom that missed out. We're printing a sticker...

Feel duty-bound to let him know, confidentially; to reduce the likelihood of a recurrence.

Macintosh / User file sharing_Sierra
February 03, 2018, 07:29:44 PM
We have a macbook and a Mini at home. I use the Mini, mostly, wife uses the macbook, mostly. But she needs to access all folders in my home folder.

I've logged in as both of us and set everything to share/read/write. Both of us as Admins.

But when I log in as her, all my User folders still have the red dot with the white 'minus' across them.

ATM she's able to log in as me, but it's a workaround. Thanks in anticipation, gurus.

Adobe Acrobat / 'Editable' PDFs
February 01, 2018, 03:30:32 PM

We do a few school diaries, yearly. Last year, (apparently), our head office peeps, (either a dezinger or the ex-typesetter guy, who's even older than I am  :old: ), did an 'editable' PDF for them for visually impaired access.

Said typesetter guy has CRAFT on it. Our mgr. will speak to one of the dezingers after  9AM to see if she did it.

Guy at school swears we did one for him last year (i.e.the company, not necessarily the print arm).

I supplied one as a full single pages flowing doc, cropped, but he wants it 'editable'.

What's involved? Can I reverse engineer anything? Should I just hide somewhere?  :undecided:
