Recently had a power outage at work and now the file server is having issues.
It will randomly drop server shares only to let you connect back in a few seconds (less than a minute as far as I can tell).


I don't see any log files or events that show up on the server. Other network connections stay on, just a few of the shares drop.


Any ideas why this is happening?

anyone know the best way to replace a failed hard drive on a prinergy server?

Was in the server room yesterday and noticed a warning on the screen for the prinergy server. Looks like Drive 0 is toast.
I pulled the drive and hooked it up to my external drive kit and it won't spin up, not even make a clicking noise or anything.

Question:
can I get a similar drive, plug it in, let it rebuild itself, good to go or does this need a Kodak service call?

ok, we've been having issues with our email.
Some outgoing emails either get sent to spam folders or don't get delivered.
For the most part, we are able to receive emails, until now. Now we don't get any emails since Host Gator "fixed" it.

Our ISP is Spectrum
email address come from Host Gator
named servers are with Network Solutions
and then we throw in the Google g-suite / workspace.

Who do you think would be the one to call to fix the outgoing/incoming mail issue?


did I mention this was a cluster?

what can I use for Illustrator like software?

We got a new Chromebook to use to feed a borrowed laser cutter (it needs either illustrator .ai  or Corel draw, pdf... yadayada), neither of which run on a Chromebook.

any ideas?
toss the Chromebook, get a windows box?
did I mention I hate jacking with anything google

Looking to replace the 12tb NAS raid that was recently hosed due to a power outage.
It was a WD My Cloud Mirror NAS with 2 6tb drives as a Raid 1 and of course all the data is gone, both drives are fried and nothing will either recognize them or reformat them.

Are there any better choices than WD?

Hey, I got a WD My Cloud Mirror 12tb (2 6tb drives) that it appears that both drives have failed (solid red light on the drive LEDs).
Any of you guys know what would be the best way to replace these and get the data transferred to the new drives or is it too late and all my stuff is history?

Not sure how this is done, but I would like to un-do it.
At the bottom of the layout panel In Indesign 2020, there are arrows to navigate to the first, last or next pages.
I got an Indesign file that has the arrows reversed.
You normally click on the left pointing arrow, and it would take you to the previous page like from page 2 to page 1.
In this doc, it takes you from page 1 to page 2, just the reverse.
Screen caps attached to show.

for some bizarre reason, the accounting PC (running Win 7), refuses to send emails from Outlook.
I have quad-druple checked all the settings but still no joy.
When you go to do a new email, it makes a window and then puts it down in the task bar, but you can't open it or do anything.
The only way to send an email is to reply from a previously received email.

of course, when you troubleshoot it, microsoft can send test emails all day, but just not the actual person.


Any ideas?

I must be blind or something, I cannot get the tool names to show in my acrobat anymore, all I see is the tool icon, no name.

Ok, I got one pain in the butt excel file.
It has several rows (not columns) that need to be combined into one cell, which if it was only a few, it wouldn't be that bad using the ole:
=A1&" "&A2&" "&A3&" "&A4&" "&A5 (except in this case it would be like e2, e3, e4, e5 and then e10, e11, e12, e13)

but, this file has lots of rows, some are 4 rows in one group, some are 3 rows in another group, then 4 rows, then another 4, etc...
( like e2, e3, e4 & e5 combined and then e10, e11, e12 & e13 combined, then e18 & e19, then another group...)

lather rinse repeat.
and this is for a variable data merge.

any suggestions?
a script perhaps?
a bigger margarita maybe?

I have not done this yet and was wondering if any of you guys have tried this.
We have Macs here that have some of the software installed using an Apple ID of a person that no longer works here.
Is it possible to "reassign" the software to another Apple ID?
Or, do I have to uninstall and re-install with another Apple ID?

anyone got any input on a scanner for Mac?
Our old Microtek 9800XL is too old to connect to any Mac we have, the Mac it was plugged into died. Can't find any software that works on the new OS and connects to an ole ass scanner.   

Needs to be at least 12x17 scan size, high res, yada yada yada

Any you guys got any tips or tricks on how to convert type into single strokes for engraving?
You can't just "convert to outlines", it gives you the entire shape.

Trying to do a data merge with this font and it all goes to hell.
I knew I was gonna have problems when I couldn't make a PDF with that font (that looked like it was supposed to).

any suggestions?

Used Indesign CC 2018, and ID 2015, no help either way.
