We might be seriously thinking switching to Fuji from Kodak Prinergy.

Has anyone here done the switch?
What should I know about XMF before switching?
Is there a huge learning curve?

Thanks Syphon

We switched and switched back. Not my idea. I love Prinergy but I really wanted to escape from Kodak.

It's pretty easy though if you are used to the old Preps template based system...getting used to to the XMF fold pattern imposition will require some time. Their preflight is worlds better than Prinergy and the overall cost and upkeep of XMF is far cheaper too.

I have been on XMF for a little over a year now
Not a huge learning curve, still learning tho :azn:
The service costs about 3000 a year I think
and includes all upgrades and unlimited phone calls
even if its something simple, they hookup thru team viewer
and see what you see.

The one pain is you can't do different sheet sizes in the same layout
there are workarounds, that are getting easier for me.
But creep with different sheet sizes takes a little getting used to.

Farabomb

No way to do independent page sizes?

That's not optimal. We do jobs with different page sizes on it all the time.

You can do independent page sizes... Tracy is referring to not being able to do different press-sheet size in a single job. Not normally a problem but I have had a couple of jobs with different page sizes and had to make another impo.

That wouldn't work either. Sometimes we run +cover jobs on different size press sheets. I guess I can strip them for the smaller size sheet and the pressmen can make their own marks on the plate but that would get real old real fast.

You can do different sheet sizes in the same impo. You have to do the job in Pagination mode and drag in a 2nd plates icon to the workflow.

Because you are doing all the job in the same workflow creep takes care of itself when set and is not an issue.

yeah, I think I made a bigger deal than it is.
Still not up to speed on the pagination mode, and been too busy to try it out
I've been doing 2 separate plates for the different sheet sizes
been working pretty good.

Tracey, its really worth the 10 minutes to learn Pagination mode. For instance you can impose any size book in about 5 clicks of the mouse. I promise, you will wonder why you have been doing it the long way.
Let me know if you need any help and I will guide you through it.

Thank you! I do need help
I'm currently doing 2 jobs, the copy girl is out on maternity
I can barely keep my dept up with maintenance
I will go thru it and see where I'm having a problem
I will post back
thanks pal!

Farabomb

Maintenance? you're allowed to do that at your shop?

I like doing maintenance, I get a little uneasy letting things go.
I think I like taking care of equipment better than prepress!!

The xerox guy was showing me some stuff on the copiers
copier tech seems like a job I could do too.

Farabomb

I'd love if I was given the time to maintain my equipment. As soon as it gets slow here I get pulled off what I'm doing to go help somewhere else in the shop. I wouldn't mind it but when they are behind because they are just lazy, I take offense. I have a lot of shit to do and I work hard to clear my plate so I can get things done. Especially if I hear "I'm paid by the hour" and "I'd work harder if you paid me more" from these sausages.

If they wanted to pay full time IT people they would. They don't. That is why they pay us the big bucks. :sarcasm:

It's even better when they say "well, everything is working". No shit, it's because I do my best to keep on top of things.

Been telling them for over a year we need to take the XP box offline and either update it or get a new one. Since it's still working it won't happen. When it gets a virus/shits the bed it's my problem. Oh yeah we need it working in 5 minutes...
