I recently grabbed a couple of images off pxhere.com which claims it's "Free of copyrights under CC0. Do whatever you want. ".

I can't find anything on the web that says this is not true. They have some pretty good photos on there high res.

Has anyone else ever used one of these sites without being very suspicious?

Wow those are great, it says royalty free and you can modify and do whatever, I think it's for real
Did you have to sign up to download?

pspdfppdfxhd

Yes you have to sign up to download.

I'm just thinking it's too easy to get decent photos for nothing.

Hoping for Joe's opinion on this.

I'd take the chance, as long as this site specifically mentions copyrights. I've used a few such sites myself. If there is a conflict, you'd probably get a cease and desist letter from some lawyer. Point the lawyer to the website and what it says, and you've got a good faith argument.

If you're leery of using something, it's best not to. That being said, there's probably less risk in using a photo on a printed product distributed locally than on a website where a potential claimant can find it.

Just my two cents.
Tall tree, short ropes, fix stupid.

You might want to google if it's a safe website
so far I found it comes from a high risk country - China
Is Websitesafe says it is safe.
Don't go by my word tho

I'm thinking Joe must be sick, he is usually always here....

Dude might be at work, in transit or swamped.

But yeah, it's a bit weird when he's not answering quickly. I'd say vacation but we all now prepress can't afford that shit.
Speed doesn't kill, rapidly becoming stationary is the problem

I'd rather have stories told than be telling stories of what I could have done.

I am not a lawyer but I do drive by a Holiday Inn Express every night.

Creative Commons Zero (CC0) license:

QuoteA Creative Commons (CC) license is one of several public copyright licenses that enable the free distribution of an otherwise copyrighted work. A CC license is used when an author wants to give people the right to share, use, and build upon a work that they have created.

This site also uses that license and they say:

QuoteIt's hard to understand complex licenses that is why all photos on Pexels are licensed under the Creative Commons Zero (CC0) license. This means the pictures are completely free to be used for any legal purpose.

The pictures are free for personal and even for commercial use.
You can modify, copy and distribute the photos.
All without asking for permission or setting a link to the source. So, attribution is not required.

So in my unqualified opinion I say they are legit.

Glad you're back Joe, I didn't want to see you mentioned in that other thread. (the one about people passing on).

Joe

Still have my cold (#2 in the last 2 months) so I may make it into that thread yet.
