wow Joe, thanks. Might eventually get a NAS. This weekend I think Comcast TV gets the boot, I'm tired of beating them up every 6 months to get a new introductory offer.

It does look interesting. Hopefully corn will give it go and let us know how great it works. If it does I might have to get a NAS for home.

There is an addon for Plex for the Netgear ReadyNAS.

Our Netgear ReadyNAS Pro here at work actually has some kind of media server included out of the box:

Yeah... afraid of that... looks like I'm hosed.

Roksbox is not DLNA capable.

Pogoplug is it's own thing - won't run Ready NAS.

Linksys also has a media server, but it's only available on LAN - no broadcast to outside IP on USB.

The whole point is that while I can view media on Pogoplug on Android Phone and tablet, iPad, iPhone and login via web, it's s-l-o-w, and I can't sync it with Roku or Directv. Without being able to broadcast via IP on the web, I can't use Roksbox, and to use Plex, I have to have my computer on, which isn't practical if I am out of town for a few days. I wanted an always-on media drive to access via Roku, Android Phone and tablet, iPad, iPhone, and web without having to leave my computer on (running Plex and/or PlayON). Since Roku isn't DLNA compliant, this setup won't work.

What about Android on a stick plugged into the USB port on the NAS? I think both Plex and XBMC has an android version.

Nope - still has to go through Pogoplug. I don't have an "always on" option other than new equipment or cloud unless I can install media server software to Pogoplug or the external.

[edit] Pogoplug does everything I want it to, except play nice with the Roku. This goes back to the old adage, "No one set top box to rule them all."

I don't care much about that, it's their network and they are pretty clear about those rules. (I got the "letter" from my wife downloading and seeding for days fuckin Jersey Shore - which is fuckin FREE and IDK what she was thinking.)

I'm keeping their internet, which is fine but maybe I'll change to business class, which has no monthly transfer cap.

The tv sucks ass, and they're now charging $2 a month for non-hd digital converter boxes, which were free. They're now charging $10 a month for a cablecard, which was going to be my next step - get a USB cablecard tuner and distribute via Windows Media Center to other computers/tvs, but for $10 a month no way.

I'm going to try no pay tv but will probably wind up with DirecTV because they have some nice offers which include being able to watch tv in more than one room (in HD even...) for not nearly as much money as comcast now is charging. With a similar package as what I have now, I figure I'll be still spending less and probably getting more. One thing that really irritates me with comcast tv is their stupid on-demand guide, it is the worst thought out interface I've seen outside of printing.

Haven't had an issues in that regard... but now I'm worried about it. I've been downloading a lot lately...
