Those reps get black marks every time they escalate a case to Tier 2 support (which is what the "senior support advisor" would be). Just leaving you hanging or shoving you off to another rep wouldn't help either. Add to that the conversation from your end, and I'd say those reps aren't getting any raises soon, if it makes you feel any better. It's like any call center job, calls are recorded, any little thing takes away from their metric score, and most work from home. They're not getting away with anything for dicking around with you.

I would've used up all my minutes on that call.

Land line? Is that some kind of stone tablet or something?

Thank god or you probably would have ended up paying porn rate for the last half hour or so. Your wife looks at the bill and says, "yea right, you were paying Apple $20 a minute."

Possum

I'm thinking of dumping my landline in favor of a cheapie Trakfone phone and plan. I don't talk to anyone, so I'll save maybe $20 a month or more.

I didn't realize that about escalating calls at call centers, good to know.

There's a thread going back years on MacRumors.com about Apple work at home advisors. Those who are hired for the jobs are supposed to stay off that website, but some useful information sneaks through.

Right now I have a two year land line through VOIPO. When it expires that will be the end of my landline.

I used to have Trakfone and here in Illinois there are many areas where you get no signal. And their support is possibly the worst support I have ever dealt with and that is saying something. My wife is still on Trakfone but she doesn't use her phone much so it only runs me about $7 a month for hers. The last time she called me from her cell phone the caller ID reported she was calling from Seattle Wa. She was not in Seattle Wa. :rotf:

I had a similar thought when I dumped my landline thru FiOs in favor of an Ooma (not a cell phone). It's still VOIP, and as long as my internet is up I have a landline. After the purchase of the Ooma, I only have to pay local monthly taxes (about $4/month).

Turns out the savings weren't that great. The FiOs Double Play (TV+Internet) isn't that much cheaper than the Triple (includes Phone) so while I thought I could save $30/month, I'm probably only saving about $12.

And the Ooma has a slight delay - makes conversations on the phone kind of annoying.

Same thing with VOIPO. And more than a little annoying.

I kept our land line as well. Ma Bell is about $27 CDN/mth up here for the residential service POTS line. Killed our long distance plan w Bell though and now when we make our very infrequent long distance calls, we use a dial-around services like 10-10-229 (2 cents/min) or 10-10-925 (5 cents/min).

I have a landline too, just in case of emergency, power outage etc..

Farabomb

In case of emergency I'd rather they not find me.

No landline, cell barely works and I don't mind at all.

Really? I have the Ooma Telo and don't get that. Using it with a Fios connection, but I do hear wildly varying reviews on many of the VoIP systems. I sprung for the Premiere service, just love blocking numbers too much & now that it talks to my Nest Thermostat I'm one step closer to a SkyNet household!  :toaster:
