Anyone make the move yet to Prinergy 9?
Have or do you plan to upgrade your Kodak servers to Windows Server 2019 to be able to run v9?
We are about to schedule Kodak to update our InSite and Prinergy servers to version 9.
We are responsible for the Windows Server 2019 OS purchases however.
Just wondering how all this will go, first time upgrading OS's on the Kodak Servers.
They were installed in January of 2018.

Joe has done.
Yesterday we went to 8.4.1.45 on Win2016.
Sometime soon TBD we will go to 9.0.1 on Win2019.
So far so good...
btw, Kodak has to be involved more than usual due to the server OS change
Those days are gone forever
I should just let them go but...

Yeah the Windows software alone from Microsoft will be $1,500 plus x 2.
Kodak onsite costs are about $7,000....ouch.

Yes. Been there. Done that. We bought the OS from Trusted Tech for $904.99 x 2  = $1,809.98 total. No tax. No shipping. Got the product keys in a matter of minutes. Didn't have to download anything. Just had to give the Product Keys to the Kodak person that updated the servers.

We have R730 Dell Premium Servers. Kodak told us we should upgrade servers. We chose not to. Kodak onsite charges were about what yours is listed at. David's price on new servers is pretty accurate for what we were quoted.

Windows 2019 Server looks exactly like Windows 10 so if you have used it you'll recognize the interface.

I'm not a fan of VPS+ so far but they are fixing some of the issues. At least now you can view both sides at the same time. And in the latest beta they have made the image quality a whole bunch better.

They have also released Preps 9.0.2 after the release of Prinergy 9.0.1. Preps 9.0.2 is Big Sur compatible so you will need that version of Preps if you need to use it on a Big Sur Mac. Preps 9.0.2 has an issue of throwing up a UTF8 error at times but Kodak says to just ignore it and they may fix it at some point but won't guarantee that they will.

We have issues with Windows Critical Updates on both servers. Fails every time so at the moment we have to download the updates and install them manually.

Great info Joe, thank you.
Thanks for the link too...a lot cheaper than buying straight from Microsoft.

I am a little confused on the whole 16core thing on the Windows licensing.
Our Dell T630 servers are 2x2.40 12 core...so 24 total cores....so it appears Microsoft grants us use of the other 8 cores.
Based off the attached screen shot.

I don't really understand the core thing as far as Windows licensing goes. I just used this calculator.

Windows Server Core Licensing Calculator

Our CPU's are Intel® Xeon® Processor E5-2620 v3 (2 processors) 6 Core

Using the calculator above for 2 processors that are each 6 core the calculator says I need 16 cores. So that is what I bought.

For yours you have 2 processors and each has 12 cores and the calculator shows 24 cores needed for yours.

I agree with you Joe, but of course i have Kodak giving me a link to the Standard 16 core 5/10 CAL version on the Microsoft website.
I will figure it out.   Thanks for the input.

The place I bought mine has license calculator too. I think it will run with 16 cores but don't think it would be properly licenses. Try this calculator.

You can also either do a chat on their website or schedule a call with them to ask them questions.

Per Kodak website:
Prinergy Workflow 9.0 requires Microsoft Windows Server 2016, or Windows Server 2019 on one of the following Dell platforms

So why are people paying to upgrade Win 2016 server???

Joe

I didn't. We had to upgrade from Windows Server 2012 R2 as Prinergy 9 will not run on it and decided to skip Windows 2016 Server.

Same here, we have 3 servers to upgrade from 2012 R2 to 2019.
Then upgrade to Prinergy 9
Prinergy, InSite and a Prinergy tertiary server.
All scheduled with Kodak for mid Sept. onsite...let the fun begin!!

If your Macs are running Catalina or later you will most likely not be a fan of VPS+. But they are getting some things fixed so that is a good sign. But the product out of the box with Prinergy 9 leaves a lot to be desired.

We updated to Prinergy 9 along with the necessary Windows 2019 upgrades to our servers last week and all went well....BUT...
We are having very sluggish behavior in Preps.  We are seeing delays on every move made to edit anything.
Anyone else have this issue?  Also some occasional long delays when trying to go and choose a previously made template via Workshop.
A few other instances of slow reactions when hitting the ok button on running process templates.
On the other hand we have noticed significant speed increases in other areas.
