Does anybody use the inkjet proofing output in XMF? I was going to try it but didnt want to waste hours if it wasnt any good.

Ear

Not I. Both of my proofs are running to secondary RIPs. One outputs imposed PDF to an EFI for my 9900 and another is doing ROOM proof composite tiff to a Spinjet HP5500 (Doubleproof).

Yeah we used to output direct to GMG but now proof direct to Epson 9800 using DLPs via ColorPath Sync to achieve Fogra compliant proofs.

Why? GMG is far more superior than XMF in terms of color management. Just asking :-)

Cost. Why pay for GMG when ColorPath is adequate?

I proof direct from xmf to epson 9900, the color is not accurate
I've tried to talk my boss into spending the money, but not winning the fight.

That sucks, Tracy. The 9900 is not a cheap device. Buying a printer like that and not using color control is stepping over a dollar to pick up a dime.

Color control is something I've been bitching about here. We profiled on totally different stuff in a different building. Everything has been changed since then. I've tweaked it enough so that it's 85% good but I always hear it when this or that doesn't match.

Then I get the "I can't believe that's possible, I've been doing this for 30 years..." No shit, back then your phone had a dial and cellphones were the size of 2 cinderblocks. Now you have a supercomputer in your pocket. Things have changed, you can't always use what you learned way back when and apply it.

It's all about the numbers. That's like a pressman eyeballing color and ignoring density bars.

It took me a few years but we now have the Spectroproof attachment on the 9900 and it is being controlled with an EFI Colorproof. It prints a target and certifies every single proof. If it drifts, I start by cleaning the printheads and if that doesn't fix it, I run a new optimization in EFI. It's really a no brainer, which is good, since I'm running it. haahaa

Seriously tho, it just takes the guess work out of it. And for those who don't care about exact color... I run to the spinjet for a digital blueline.

you just described my boss

Ear

Yes, Tracy, I know. I think there is a Boss Business College course that teaches all of them how to pinch pennies and fart fifties.

The difference between beating up the boss and beating up DCS' kids... you can sleep comfortably after the fight with the boss. #sleepwithoneeyeopen
