Adobe Acrobat / Adobe at it again?
January 14, 2022, 08:18:07 AM
Acrobat DC update 21.011.20039 from the past couple days seems to have hosed my ability to unmask masked items. The option is no longer available. Anyone else having this issue? I used Time Machine to revert back by a week and it's all good now. Also turned off the automatic update option in Preferences.

Adobe Acrobat / Disappearing Text
June 04, 2014, 03:21:09 PM
Hi guys,

i have an unusual problem. PDF supplied by client (Adobe InDesign Server CS4). Goes into Rampage or Prinergy and one code disappears (same code on 2 pages) when the file is ripped. It prints fine from the originating PDF, incidentally.

Turn on Separations Preview and the code disappears.

The code is black, by the way. And it cannot be selected at all using Pitstop.

It is a layered PDF, but the code still shows when all the layers are turned off.

The workaround is to make a PS of the PDF, distill that and only then does the text become editable, and also "rippable" in either Prinergy or Rampage. What sucks about this is that the PDF originates from a company whose lawyers mandate that we not touch their PDFs at all for any reason.

The code, when it is distilled, is: HelveticaNeueLTW1G-CN, and is a Type 1 font.

Any ideas what's causing this? I've looked some on the web but haven't found anything that hasn't already been troubleshot to death.

Thanks,

Orka81

RAMpage / Pantone+ and Rampage
February 26, 2013, 01:08:57 PM
Hi all,

Has anyone had issues with Adobe CS6 and Pantone+ colors that RIP as blank pages in Rampage? Running Rampage 11.3.0build40 here, with a total PDF workflow.

I know that if we change the Pantone+ mode from LAB to CMYK, the file rips fine. But it's a total PITA to chase down any and all placed logos to clear out those colors.

Thanks in advance

RAMpage / Metrix and Rampage
December 03, 2009, 06:52:44 PM
Hi all,
We have metrix 3.6 and Rampage 11.2 and use JDF. At times when we rerip pages in an already ripped and impo'd job, the pages will either rotate 90 or 180 degrees. (On Multiburns, one or the other file may rotate.)
We have figured out that this is more likely to occur when the impo has page positions that are rotated. Just seems weird. To avoid this, we have to unassign pages and then re-rip the files and assign all over again. This does not happen when we need to use Preps.
I'll be calling both Metrix and Rampage, but just wanted any assistance beforehand in case i need ammo.

thanks in advance

General Prepress / Preflight Checklist
September 17, 2009, 05:02:22 PM
Hi all,

Do any of you create preflight reports for job planning/CSRs/Sales?

We often need to preflight jobs before they are brought in to be worked on. We run all jobs through FlightCheck Pro and then comb through the files for common issues: color mismatches, bleed problems, folios placed inconsistently, die consistently...all that and more. The reports are printed (along with the FlightCheck reports) and given to job planning so that they can work their voodoo on them. Our preflight reports list only issues which are written in such a way so as to force the CSR to answer/address the problem. It all seems to work pretty good.

I'm curious to know what others are doing, if anything.

thanks in advance,

RAMpage / Rampage Driving Printware Platestream
July 01, 2009, 02:04:07 PM
Maybe this should be in the Xitron thread, but here goes:

was just surprised to find a Printware Platestream polyester platesetter thingie show up at work and me expected to run it.

the idea passed on to me is that Rampage should be able to drive it, since the module that was purchased for printware has no trapping capabilities.

my thinking is that we will need a shooter to drive the platestream.

Am i correct?

thanks in advance

Hi all, and thanks in advance for any help here.

have an an excel file with names and addresses and so on for wedding envelopes. saved it as .csv and delimited text file and no matter what, indesign won't import the database, insisting and rather snottily that:

The selected data source has one or more empty field names

it goes on to demand that i fix the problem. the problem is that i have no ffn idea how to fix the problem or what that means, exactly.

CTP - CTF / Fuji Replenisher question
April 13, 2009, 12:56:38 PM
Hi All,

In an effort to cut costs, I have been asked if it's feasible to not use replenisher in our Fuji FLP-1260 processor.

The thinking behind this is that replenisher is more expensive than developer and if replenisher is used to prolong the life of the developer, then why not abandon the replenisher altogether and just perform more chemistry dumps to keep the overall chemistry sparkling squeaky and clean?

Is this possible, or if so, even advisable?

Thanks in advance

Hi all,

I have a grayscale image tht is being made into a metal stamp for folder imprints. This one has shadows and the like in it, so not much is solid. I have been requested to save it with 110 line screen. How exactly do I do that? The photoshop online help says this:

In the Halftone Screens dialog box, do one of the following:
To save settings, click Save. Choose a location for the saved settings, enter a file name, and click Save.
To load settings, click Load. Locate and select the settings, and click Load.

but I can't find the halftone screens dialog box anywhere. Or am I missing something very obvious?

thanks in advance.

General Prepress / Image res and line screen ruling
February 17, 2009, 09:42:27 AM
Hi all,

Got into a discussion with the bosses earlier about image resolution vs. line screen. I know that the general rule of thumb is that the image res should be twice that of the line screen ruling.

We have Rampage 10.5 and run a CoRes Square dot. Our output res is 2438 with a line screen ruling of 200.

My question: does that rule still hold fast?

We occasionally get phone calls from photographers asking for specs. In the past I have told them 300 dpi, 100% to size for optimal results. The bosses want me to tell the designers 400dpi.

Thanks in advance,

Adobe InDesign / Indesign Data Merge Question
December 09, 2008, 01:30:26 PM
I have an excel file with simple info to place into indesign using data merge.

the fields are Salutation, first name, last name, address, city, state, zip, so that it might read:

Mr. John Smith
123 Main Street
Anytown, IN 46554

the salutation is optional, so this field may be blank or filled with 'Mr.' 'Mrs.' and so on.

when i run data merge on it, i set up a space between the salutation and first name, and so on.

if page 1 has a salutation, it previews fine, if page 2 does not, then there is an extra space before the first name, so that it will read:

<space>  John Smith
123 Main Street
Anytown, IN 46554

is there an easy way to get rid of that extra space that does not require manually removing it?

thanks in advance

Kodak Preps / Preps 5.3.2 installation oops
November 04, 2008, 09:24:54 AM
i inadvertantly installed the full preps 5.3.2 version instead of doing just the update and now, when i print, my only option is to save as a .ps file. We are a rampage shop and so saving to EPS is preferred.

am i missing something obvious? a setting perhaps? all the printer devices can be seen as before the upgrade.

thanks in advance for any help

General Prepress / On-Line Proofing Systems
July 10, 2008, 06:45:35 AM
Hi all,

Does anyone out there use an on-line proofing system? we're considering it, and there seem to be a few to choose from. the idea is that we upload a final PDF to the online proofing system, the client receives notification of it and marks it up with changes or approves it and we go from there. One such system is Proof-it-online, but their setup converts the PDF to flash content and that can cause problems if the PDF is not PDF 1.3 compliant. and while the initial costs are not high, we are charged per proof page uploaded (resubmits are not charged).

thanks in advance,

steve

Hi all,

New to the forums, though I've been entertained for some time by the postings. My question: Is it possible to run magnetic-backed sheets through an epson 9600 printer? with the magnetic backing and all the metal going in and coming out of the printer, i don't see how. have even tried putting a cardboard backing under the magnet to act as a buffer, but that doen't work.

thanks in advance,

Kodak Systems / Preps 5.3 and text-mark variable
November 09, 2007, 09:05:54 AM
Hi all

is there a way in preps 5.3 with the text-mark variables to have them read, say, Form 1 Front, Form1 Back, instead of Sig1A, Sig1B? We did this at a prior job location, but we had prinergy; here we have rampage. I can't seem to find any information about this.

Thanks in advance
