This guy's article is up-to-date, unlike a lot of stuff on the 'net. Has info on different requirements of Leopard and Snow Leopard. Recommendations etc. on what you may or may not need to keep in mind when managing fonts. I've bookmarked it for reference, FWIW.
He hasn't mentioned the 'Tools' menu in FEX. Nobody's perfect...

I was 'cheeky' enough to suggest he add in 'Tools' Meunu in FEX. He was very cool about it. But he also asked a question about font issues in SL. We only run SL for our Black Magic server, so couldn't comment. Someone else may have some input for him. Query, as well as reply link, below:

Have you noticed any problems under Snow Leopard? A few people I've(attempted) to help could not get certain fonts to activate with FEX.Resetting Font Book's database and clearing all caches didn't help. After that though, you *could* activate the same fonts with Suitcase Fusion 2 orFont Agent Pro.

I am in no hurry to use Snow Leopard, especially after hearing about all the font issues and the hard time people are having finding updated printer drivers.

I had an issue today with Snell Roundhand Type One font in Illy CS4 running Leopard 10.5.8. The letters were all on top of each other like the tracking was all messed up. Same file in Tiger on my G5 was fine.
I even dumped the font cache on the Leopard Imac but still couldn't use that font. I'm wondering if we will ever move up to even Leopard for production now. BTW I have FEX on both Macs.

I don't know if this is related Alma, but I have had a few Indesign CS3 files I opened in CS4 and I could NEVER get the fonts to work. It rewrapped, conflicted, everything you could imagine. I was so frustrated I finally trashed it and started over, after realizing it was built in CS3. Opened it in CS3... perfect.

A few weeks ago I overheard the IT guys talking about deziners in the artz dep upstairs asking when they were gonna get SL.

Funny, some arty people want the new thing as soon as they hear about it, others refuse to ever upgrade past OS 8.1 and Quark 3.32r5. None of them, of course, have the foggiest idea of what any of this is actually all about, let alone how any of it really works. Artists, ya know.

I sent some of the SL rants about Type 1 issues to the IT braintrust and they took the hint and told the artzy fartzy wannabees upstairs to cool it for a while longer. Sometimes I win one. Not that I care much if the crowd upstairs upgrades themselves into font hell or not, considering the ridiculous condition of the files they dump on us down here in the boiler room.

I have it, but it slipped my mind... I'm sure I was multi-tasking when it was happening... as usual. Too much shit to remember.
