Does anyone know of a base font list for this OS 10.4.11.
I think mine is out of control.
I have 113 items in my HardDrive/Library/Fonts folder.
I just checked with a co worker and he has over 200.

My Tiger 10.4.11 one has 263 in it.

Leopard 10.5.2 and it has 245 in it.

Our Vista work PC has around 380 in it's system font folder.

I guess not but it looks like I am and I swear...I have not put one single font in those locations. (That I know of)

Mine has in Library/fonts 0
In System /Library/fonts 23

But I use Font Explorer and also have trimmed the fat so to say,

I'm real anal when it comes to font organization. Your library fonts folders don't need to have any fonts in them - I will occasionally copy some fonts into my root/library/fonts folder when I don't want to start up FEX, and I've made an alias of that folder in my window sidebar to do so easily. If that folder gets too cluttered, I just delete all the files because I've copied them there, not moved them.

I've also trimmed my system/library/fonts folder, but be careful there. I had issues at one point and discovered that keeping Geeza and Geeza Pro installed solved the problem, even though I'll never use that font.

So,  :drunk3: i send the job to the rip with live transparecy (v 1.7 or whatever) and it craps out with a memory error.

The best resource I've found on font trimming is David Creamer's OS X Font Management for Graphic Artists (http://www.ideastraining.com/DownloadAndTips/DownloadsAndTips.html)

Here is the base fonts i have in my System>Library>Fonts

courier
geneva
helvetica
keyboard
lastresort
lucidagrande
monaco

and

geeza and geeza pro, just like gnubler.

Library>Fonts folder is empty

User>Library>Fonts is where i load and unload all fonts.  i keep an alias on my desktop, and drag and drop for each job, as i need them (although these days i am 99% PDF anyway).  no fonts stay in here permanently, i just drag them in and out as needed, has worked like a charm for me for the last 5 years.

one other thing of note:  i replaced the .dfont version of Helvetica and Courier with the Type 1 versions (screen and printers) in the System>Library>Fonts folder.  the .dfont versions used to conflict with the Type 1 versions when i loaded them up.
