General Prepress / Re: epson pro 7880 error

Thanks for all of the feedback - I decided to just call in a service request - I want them to give us a good once-over anyway. We used to run some VERY cheap paper through it that resulted in tons of paper dust when it was cut and I would have to run the nozzle check and cleaning cycle ALOT, so I think it's worth it. Thanks ALL!!

Quote from: Ear on February 18, 2015, 02:27:37 PMI wouldn't just reset this code, or clear the counter. Your Cleaning unit is almost full... continuing to run, once it is full, will cause a huge mess. The cleaning unit is where it spits ink when cleaning the printheads... you would not want this to overflow!
Are you talking about the "Maintenance Tank"? This is not a maintenance tank error

General Prepress / epson pro 7880 error
February 18, 2015, 07:46:53 AM
hi all!! – can you help a brother out?
I received an error code on our Epson Pro 7880 that is 0040 – I know what the code is its "Cleaning unit near end of life"
I have read that I can reset the counter (we used to do this with our 7600 maintenance tanks)
Bottom line is I can get to the super secret service menu by pressing pause, down, right when powering up and view the counters but there is no option to "clear" the counter

Enfocus / Step and Repeat function
September 24, 2014, 07:25:52 AM
Hi all!
Does anyone know if it's possible to do a step and repeat with an action list? I need to show pin feeds on our pdf proofs. I created an ellipse in the color and position I need for the first one but need to step and repeat (about 30 times) in .5" increments.

RAMpage / output tiffs with color names
February 05, 2014, 04:55:07 AM
Hello all!
We are getting trained for using Rampage (v13) it is ALL new to me, head spins! lol
I have noticed that tif files output to our ctp are named WITHOUT the pms  color (ie job no 123456_2.tiff) we really need to have it named WITH the pms as a part of the name (ie job no 123456_PANTONE185.tiff) sometimes they have to make plates on another shift and they need to know which color they are making. Surely, we can't be the only shop needing this and the person doing the training has called rampage and they said it can't be done. What am I missing?

Thanks all for the suggestions.. I can fix it in Pitstop... now that I know it's missing  :shoots_self:
Has anybody seen this before? Admittedly, I've never given DeviceN a second thought.

Here are some screenshots. The one named "inspector" is showing pitstop sys it is and the "refried" is pdfx1a export from indesign (cs5)

Quote from: born2print on December 27, 2013, 01:32:40 PMI wish I could tell you exactly whats wrong, but we never have time to figure out - just work-around:
Try older / flattened flavor of pdf (pdf1.3)
Try print .ps file

did both... weird stuff. I know this pdf came from a prinergy system so I'm assuming this thing has been refried more than once

You do see the elements in your InDD file then they are missing (or hidden) in your exported pdf?

Yes I can see them in the indd doc, they're just gone when the pdf gets exported. I have tried different settings in the export (like turning off compression and all of that stuff)

General Prepress / Help - DeviceN Problems
December 27, 2013, 12:46:13 PM
Hi all,
I had someone send me a pdf that had some elements (logos, pics, etc..) in DeviceN. What I usually do with most supplied pdfs is place in Indesign so I can add FPO stuff lineholes, perfs, etc and export another pdf for approval and plates. Well, SOME of the DeviceN elements got deleted when making the final pdf! No warnings or anything! What gives?

Quote from: gnubler on December 02, 2013, 10:16:30 PMI've done it, twice.  Along with driving across Texas, it took me two days because it got so boring. Most of the western states have so much empty space it's possible to drive at least an hour or two (off interstate) and not see another car if you time it right.
My son drove from Toledo OH to South Padre Island Texas with 5 of his buddies in a jeep (not the kind you can take the top off), stopping only for taco bell and coffee... imagine the stink!!! I think I'll take two days of boring over that! lol

CTP - CTF / Re: thermal machine costs

Quote from: andyfest on November 22, 2013, 09:12:54 PMWe have been using a Fuji T9000 platesetter - really a re-badged Screen 8600 - for about 10 years and about 180,000 imaged plates. We have only had to replace 1 diode laser (out of 64 on the array) so far. It's been a solid, reliable workhorse and I would not hesitate to recommend any of the updated platesetters in this line. ROI is achieved in a relatively short time as your substantial film/chem/stripping costs go out the window immediately.
10 years... wow! Roughly how much was the diode? Was it easy enough to replace yourself?

Awesome... 13 is what we are getting! I really like the object based trapping and I know there is also an option of selecting certain elements and telling to print it at say 133dpi and all others at 150dpi and so on...  Flattened transparencies have also been causing us a few headaches recently and it would be nice to have a rip that handles it better

Quote from: Skryber on November 21, 2013, 10:23:44 PMI love Aldi. Cuts my grocery bill in half at least. Long lines yes. Cashiers always nice. The food is great. I can't walk into a grocery store to get one thing. I may have that intention but never happens. At least the line moves fast. A few days ago a People of Walmart candidate tore a worker a new asshole because he took his break with a ton of people in line. He got up and went back to work.   She was frightening.

lol... I dropped my daughter off at college and the first place she scoped out was NOT the bar scene but where the nearest Aldi was!!! So proud <sheds tear>

Quote from: DigiCorn on November 21, 2013, 01:28:09 PMWe use Rampage and a Screen PlateRite 4100 with Agfa Azura TS plates, and for a very, very small shop that needs to watch the bottom line it has not only been solid, but a very cost friendly solution.

quick change of subject.. lol, is there any advice you can give someone switching from an old xitron rip to a new rampage? What was one thing that took awhile to get used to or something I should watch out for?
