It will be interesting when someone sends a PDF in made with "Adobe Color". When Adobe makes that change it will take Kodak at least two years to make that change in Prinergy so I'm pretty sure Prinergy will "poo the bed" when that first PDF arrives and tries to process. It is just too bad I won't be there to see it.  :sarcasm:  :P :P :P :P :P :P :P

I assume Adobe will plan on wanting to sell Adobe Color ink to printers too. Good luck with that.

And it is too bad abc isn't at Enfocus to make an action that converts Adobe Color to Pantone. :lmao:

At Adobe <=========== :facepalm:

And from the Adobe FAQ page:

Pantone color
What are Pantone Matches?
Color themes on Adobe Color can now be instantly converted into Pantone® colors which are used in printing, textiles, and manufacturing. Use these colors in Adobe applications when creating your designs.

How do I convert my color themes to Pantone colors?
Open a theme and scroll down to Pantone Matches. Open the Pantone Matches menu and select the Pantone book you wish to use. Your swatches will automatically be converted into Pantone colors. You can download an image with the color information, or an ASE file which can be used to add your Pantone colors to the swatch panel in Adobe applications.

How do I use Pantone colors in Adobe applications?
Your Pantone color themes are available in the Libraries panel. In Photoshop, double-click a swatch in your theme to add to your active color. In Illustrator and InDesign, right-click the theme and select Add Theme to Swatches.

For more information on working with swatches in Illustrator, click here.

For more infromation on working with swatches in InDesign, click here.

Title: Re: Creative Cloud to stop including Pantone Libraries!!
Post by: David on December 09, 2021, 12:32:33 PM
what if I just want a single color? I don't need a "theme" for a 1 color job.

WTF??

I'm sure they will offer a subscription to their new way of making you work harder.

...thank you, can I have another

Any idea if they still going to allow exporting of formula guides into Adobe creative suite applications?

ie:
buy the uncoated and coated books.
use code on back/inside of the books with Pantone Colour Manager application [app is now activated when you use the code(s)]
export  the formula guides into the creative suite applications (illy, indesign, photoshop) to have a recent set of colours and not a set from... creative suites release?

It's not yet clear who instigated this.
Adobe pay Pantone a license fee to include the libraries. They may think it's too expensive.
Pantone may not want that relationship any more, and want to monetize including the libraries another way.

Time will tell.

Oh, you just know Adobe's gonna find some way to get money out of this. Oh, it screws up your work? Reminds me of a line from Goodfellas. "F you, pay me."

So, will we have to push clients to use Pantone Connect (https://www.pantone.com/pantone-connect-for-adobe-creative-cloud) instead? I'm really not sure how designers or providers can use the Adobe products without integrated Pantone support.

Oh, yeah, another thing for clients to learn. Like they haven't yet learned to use what they have correctly yet.

It does look good on their screens without Pantone Connect, ya' know.

All the features I just don't need. I simply need pantones that somewhat accurately appear on screen for proofs and be able to make plates. Hoping Pantone Connect Basic which is free will let me continue to do this. Gotta love these brand new features that take things away!

Maybe we all will get lucky and everyone will switch to only using CMYK? Or better yet LAB? Or RGB? Maybe we will stop using Spot colors in printing, because print is dead, right?  :sarcasm:

I miss straight up CMYK printing!!

So 12 months ago, we start this "CMYK +2 PMS" push, which is cool and going pretty well, as we move away from a lot of HEX-Color builds where the volume isn't worth it ...
And now we are lost ... in a sea of blood sausages who believe adobe will get it right, despite never editing a file.  :banghead:

On the up-side - my unpopular stand/rant about "DO NOT mess with the color proofs ... don't be CHEAP." is looking pretty sweet now!  :dev2:

I found this article on how to copy your Pantone libraries and save them, then hope that one can import them back in.

Pantone has provided an explanation in this article:https://creativepro.com/pantone-color-libraries-are-leaving-the-adobe-apps/ (https://creativepro.com/pantone-color-libraries-are-leaving-the-adobe-apps/)

Key notes:

   • Pantone VP explains: "...the future of Pantone colors in Adobe products lies in add-on software, Pantone Connect, which will let the color systems company sell complete and up-to-date color data directly to its own users. . .Pantone was unable to actively update the library to correct any changes to the color data or to update it with new colors," Cheng told CreativePro. "We had to find a way to address user problems regarding these outdated libraries.""
    • "On top of the usual Adobe Creative Cloud subscription plans, Pantone Connect will cost $7.99 per month or $35.99 for a full year for the first year and $59.99 annually thereafter."
    • "Nothing will prevent a user of the affected software from creating a brand-new color swatch as a spot color, selecting a color using RGB sliders to match the printed Pantone chip."
    • "Users of Photoshop on the Mac M1 processor will find that the Extension won't load at all, as Adobe has changed the file format for add-on software. Users wishing to access Pantone Connect and other Extensions will need to run the Intel version of Photoshop under Rosetta 2 or downgrade to version 22.2.0 via the Creative Cloud app."
    • "Existing documents—both native application documents and PDFs generated for publication or distribution—will be unaffected by any changes, with essential color information (though it might be from data that Pantone says is long outdated) remaining embedded in the documents that are created with current tools."

I've read in other places you "could" save an image of the current version of this software, preserving the time when this is FREE ... not saying you should do this or condoning such actions, just telling you what I have read.

quick question if you have multiple updates like:
photoshop 22.5.5 and there is a 23.1.1

will 23.11 cover everything or do I need to update the 22.55 and the 23.1.1?
didn't want to start a topic for this
Title: Re: Creative Cloud to stop including Pantone Libraries!!

That is because you have more than one version of Photoshop on your Mac. If you want all versions updated you have to do all updates for each version. Easiest solution is when you install a new version have it remove all older versions. Unless you need an older version I recommend doing it this way. And of course with Creative Cloud terms of service you are only allowed (legally) to keep the last two versions installed. Though I have never seen the Adobe Police show up at anyones door to enforce that.
