Just a heads up.
On my new Mac if forgot to change the default setting in Acrobat to turn off the automatic updates.
It went to version .20458 and all kinds of crazy crap started happening especially with PitStop.
Luckily, I was able to copy back version .20423 from a time machine backup from last Friday. The OS is Ventura 13.6.3
These days it's dangerous to have automatic updates for practically anything.
Upgrade: Replacing a simple system that works with a complex system that doesn't. Updates aren't much different.

Buuuuuut, with this update Acrobat is now DicTok compliant! :o
Man the things you have to remember when you setup a new computer. It went a lot better than last time because of the previous experience, but you always miss something. TURN OFF THE AUTO UPDATE IN ACROBAT. WHY IS THAT THE DEFAULT??
If the auto update doesn't screw up something on the computer itself, it will definitely make it incompatible with some other thing you're connected to, like a printer.
I've been bashing my head against my keyboard all week. I only have one client anymore, I've been doing odd jobs with her for years. That said, I get about 3 or 4 jobs a year from her, we work really well together. She's in California, I'm in Minnesota. We've never met, but we text back and forth regularly.
What I seem to be seeing is that sleazy ADOBE's monster is uploading my files and "fixing" them for me. When I build a project for her, I'll use several layers and a couple fonts and downloaded images. Nothing fancy, but a couple times a year she'll give me a nice, interesting, fat book to design. I'm paying $50/month to be insulted like this. Breaking it down by week, that's $12.50, that's a couple beers at my local bar. I can work with that.
Now... NOW... NOW!!! every time I get something working just fine, ADOBE reaches in during the night and jams everything into an impossible pile of crapy PDF junk, which may or may not have layers, and it really seems like ADOBE is doing this because they think people like myself are too stupid to know what they're doing, and likely to STEAL SOMETHING if they don't toss something in line to keep me from getting any work done.
It certainly appears that ADOBE is TERRIFIED that I MIGHT STEAL SOMETHING, so they make it really, really hard for me to get anything done without a lot of yelling and screaming (when my wife isn't home, of course.)
What am I missing?
You're missing a nice, normal world that is not ruled by Adobe.

Yeah I haven't had any Adobe issues in the last couple of years. ;D
The only ones I've had are with Adobe Reader. They have all kinds of tools but whenever you click on one they tell you to subscribe to the full version. How about just don't show me anything I can't use? I know I can't do much with Reader but I'd like to find out what its capabilities are, if any.

Well they can't sell you something if you don't know about it. ;D
Note to Adobe: they can't sell me something anyway.

Hotmetal, you can call Adobe and tell them you only use the applications once in a while and that its not worth it for that price. They knocked me down to the student price 32.99/month for a year. And then every year I call and they renew it at that same rate. It's not much but it'll put a few more beers in your belly. ;D
This happened to me to, Bubbles... forgot about the hidden updater for Acrobat and now PitStop is almost unusable. Select an object and everything goes blank. I can still use actions and GC but I'm flying blind. This is an older PitStop and I reckon it is finally time to update to a subscription.
All of this gets me into update hell. My main production masheen is still on Catalina, using 2023 versions of InDesign, etc... and Suitcase for font management. I'm reluctant to let the Mac update to Sonoma and update all of my Adobe stuff, for fear of losing days of production trying to sort it out if it turns into a mess. I still use older InDesign to handle PS fonts and not sure I will be able to use any of that once I upgrade.
Upgrade, update - getting to be dirty words. If Adobe and a few other companies spent half the time making sure their update or upgrade worked with common software that is usually used with them as the poor users spend trying to just do their job after the upgrade, there would be a lot less hairpulling.

Hey Ear!
Yeah I had to go through it, worst part is Pantone connect, I have not updated InDiesign to the last one
as I will lose my swatches and have to go to connect, I am starting to get use to it but not fully.
I accidentally updated Illy so Pantone connect
Dumb question, but if you just bring a pdf into indesign, does that not import all the PANTONE swatches?
If you had a pdf with all the Pantone colours wouldn't that bring them all in?
I know, it sounds too easy but when I import any PANTONE colours from supplied pdfs they come in. I'm sure that I am missing something here though.

Been out of the game for awhile but it doesn't actually add the colors in the PDF to the main pallet does it? I think they are just in the document swatch pallet and when you close that document they are no longer there.
Yes, just to the document pallet, but if you need to create something with a spot color and you import the pdf you could use that color in your document. So, you could import a pdf with all the Pantone colours you need and then select those colours and export those swatches and reload them back into a new document and they're in there. I tried it and it seemed to work. Still feeling like I am missing something though.

did you update to the latest InDesign when you got the new computer?
Yes, the latest and greatest full of tons of new "features".

Do you have Pantone connect?
No, no connect here.
I don't think you will see any Pantone swatches since you upgraded
I forgot I updated my indesign too, I Have connect tho
I avoided the update for a long time
They are all still there in pitstop though, i had to convert a 4 color pdf to 2 spot colors last week had and no problems.

So there is a project in the making. Make a pdf with all the spot colours in it and place it in any document that needs spot colours. Gunna take a while to filter the ones you don't need out, but it is a workaround. ;D ;D

So does Affinity Publisher. ;D
My Pitstop doesn't have the color of the year, though.
I'd had a request for that PMS right before I posted that. From one of our own salespeople.

I just tried it, I downloaded a pdf with all the Pantone colors in it and they all came into the document swatch palette. Hundreds of them. May not be the latest Pantone colors but it brings them all in.
And you can select them all and export them to reload later. Very processor intensive though.
Peach fuzz?

Yeah, it's a few shades lighter tint than molesterstache.
It's not my favorite. But they have a nifty paragraph written by an artist that's not short on marketing BS to tell us all how awesome it is.
I can feel the awesomeness from here...

They can feel it from France too, but there they feel C'est super!

That's why I like nectarines better (fun fact, nectarines are in fact a hairless variety of peach)
Or I peel them but who has the time?
I heard if you run water on them it negates the fuz but we have determined THAT WAS A LIE!

So, the pdf I have with the swatches is for PANTONE uncoated and I exported an .ase file which can be loaded into Indesign using "new swatch" other library and I named it PANTONE UNCOATED and it's permanent. Quit InDesign and reopened in it's still there like the old PANTONE uncoated library. I am now looking for a coated swatch pdf.
Yep, found one of those too, will now load up my new swatches there too!
But this one doesn't look complete. Hmmm.....nevermind.
Will keep looking.
Found one. The searching for the color is a bit lame though. You have to type in the whole name to find it. Example, you to get 185 red you would have to type in: PANTONE 185 but that's not the end of the world.

Funny, I wasn't familiar with that deal. In fact, when I think of peaches, I think this:

As per original post:
Following the release of Adobe Acrobat Version 2023.008.204xx, a number of our valued customers encountered various problems while using PitStop Pro on Mac OS. Since day one, we have been dedicatedly working to resolve these issues promptly to ensure you regain full control over PitStop Pro as soon as possible.
We are thrilled to announce that a hotfix is now available! This hotfix addresses the issue where the document turns "white" after editing the document using a Preflight Profile, Action List, or making a Global Change or when using the Edit text line and Edit paragraph tools or the Measure tool.
We also took this opportunity to complete our Knowledge base (https://go.enfocus.com/e/133081/v2023-008-20423-language-en-US/8slt6z/1360119305/h/VnFSKAoCemYIcAhx2vJrlwEuUv4JaRdwTFa8Xm2th2k) and provide a workaround to downgrade Acrobat Pro when necessary.
Let us also remind you to disable automatic updates in Acrobat Pro's preferences.

The only upside i can see is that i could milk out a few hours of overtime restoring the previous version. Other than that, i would rather chew nails.
Random question about Acrobat: I'm working on a page for a friend in acrobat which will be a PDF (obviously) and saved a copy as a JPG ... it KEPT the website link, and I was SUPER impressed with that, for an image file.
But in the JPG the url links to "nttp.." despite the text being CORRECT and using "http.." ... wtf?
Any ideas/thoughts from you guys?

I have never seen an image file with an embedded "clickable" link, very curious. Not sure how to fix it tho.

Are you sure the link in the PDF file correct? In the PDF the text can be correct while the actual link may not be. If you click the link in the PDF does it go to the correct place.

C'mon MAN!!
That was my first check (after i managed to find/kill a weird layer of shadows), then I re-exported the PDF (and the URL worked) and re-saved the JPG from the PDF which still failed, as "nttp" ...
However, I just heard from the sender "yeah, she made in CANVA, but it's still a PDF" ... I still haven't tried to take a Canva file to print (unlike you "lucky" guys), but all bets are off now.

Hey I had to ask...
I wonder if Acrobat is converting the link via a reverse OCR (changing text to image instead of image to text) and it is thinking the h is an n. That is just a wild guess and I have no proof. :P

Canva, Australia's most embarrassing export.
My go to with Canva files - Re postscript, drop into Indesign, re export to PDF.
I find that most times the trim box is not exactly the correct size when pdf comes from Canva. Yesterday I had 1 that was supposed to be A4 (210 x 297mm). Actually size was 209.362 x 296.412. Created all kinds of issues with line ups when imposed. Very thin white lines on spine because the file slots into the imposition layout at top left corner X and Y = 0.
Even laying it up in Indesign was problematic because there were curved graphics that crossed the spine on facing pages and they needed to be lined up.
Have I ever mentioned I hate Canva, it's almost a fucking virus on your computer.
I was designing logos, posters and FB ads for my previous band, using Adobe products... my drummer suggested Canva to me as a free, easy way to do our branding, so I quit the band! You can say anything you want about my playing but I don't want to be told to use Canva!
YOU DID NOT?!?!?! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:
Yeah huh! Totally did! The best part, his wife is a creative director at a large, local company and an Adobe user. I told him to ask her why I am quitting. ;D There were other issues happening but that was the last straw.
Oh man, still a God-level mic drop!
I can understand how Canva could push one over the edge when the edge is close.
