OK I ever really used it since I saw it demoed in Boston many, many years back (when CS was first being talked about and released in Beta), but I figured it would really be a great tool if I ever needed to search for and purchase a stock photo or two for publication.

Well I have a client who's need required me to search for a couple of simple stock photos, and guess what I found when I tried to use Adobe's Stock Photos CS3????

I'm really starting to think Adobe has the feeling of being omnipotent and can play with our heads any way they choose.

This sounds like a Rant but I wanted to know if anyone else uses these services and besides "iStock Photos" and "Getty images" who do you use?

This topic has been moved to InDesign.

It is more related to InDesign than to Fonts

I haven't really investigated this thouroughly yet but I needed to open a couple of CS2 ID document and re-export them to PDF for a customer (who lost the originals), and when doing this ID crashed and all I got was an empty icon on my desktop.

The original ID docs were created on my G4-500 with CS2 and Acrobat Pro 6.5
Since getting my new iMac (intel 2.8 GHz) and installing CS3 along with Acrobat Pro 8 that's when the trouble started.
the files both times were saved to the default (Smallest File Size)

New documents created in CS3 don't seen to be effected.

Anyone have any clues as to the culprit? or is more info needed?

Thanks ???

General Prepress / PDF 2 ID (duplicate Post)
December 08, 2007, 09:52:00 PM
Has anyone seen this yet? I'm almost ready to plop the $250 for it just to put it through it's paces.

PDF2ID

Do ya think they want to compete with PitStop? or did someone just get smart and create a PDF plugin for ID that really works.

Please – comments wanted

I posted this in Acrobat also, but feel it's important enough to post in multiple places. I'm going to lock out this thread so if you have comment please go to Acrobat and post there!

Thanks, the management

OK so who put Presstek or Kodak in charge of determining what color sequence a digital 4/color press should run at?

Ours is set to K>C>M>Y. I've grown up in this trade seeing everything from YMCK, to CYKM, and every other combination you can think of.

Is there so much in the type of press? the type of ink? and or the type of screen and subject matter? what are the thoughts, theories and alternatives you use out there?

When we had a 36" single color Heidelberg, running limited edition lithos for Exclusive customers, we ran 175lpi elliptical dot screens and in the Yel, Mag, Cyn, Blk rotation. Anyone else?

Anyone seen or heard anymore on this "new" chip from Intel? the article says the modified version would ship by November 12 07. from what I read in the article this thing will make my new 24" 2.8 iMac seem like molasses in January. :-\

Adobe InDesign / InDesign Tips-N-Tricks

I thought I'd post these here since I've re-uped my subscription to ID magazine:

Sorting Styles
QuoteAll styles in their panels (Object, Paragraph, Character, Table,
and Cell) are usually listed in the order they are created --
from first to  last. You can instead sort them alphabetically by
choosing Sort by Name in each of the styles panel menu. But
you can also drag styles from one position to another, letting
you customize the order in any way that makes sense to you.

OK I'm throwing a generic question out there to those who own or operate an Epson printer/proofer. How difficult, how long (does it take) and do I start to get my shops color calibrated? ??? ???

I have worked with profiles in the past, calibrated Scitex work stations (in the past) calibrated curves on a PlateStream platesetter, and now I run a 34DI press that is also connected to an Epson 7800 printer, fed by the Presstek RIP (I think it's called "ProRIP"), a proprietary RIP that is a ROOM system.

Now since I've just been hired to run the press (they're ignoring my 35 years of prepress background) all I keep hearing is the proofs will never match the press sheets! BULLS**T, I know better. I just don't have the experience of these specific machines to know what I'm doing but I do know it can be done, damn even the Presstek demo video says so.

So anyone been through this kind of initial setup and calibration routine? I'd love to hear your trials and tribulations on this.

Pressroom / Yucky "Yupo" synthetic paper???
October 03, 2007, 08:06:44 AM
Anyone out there run this crap? I believe it's called Yupo synthetic plastic paper. I've had a job for the NY State Troopers now in the shop for over 2 months and we can't get it to run right, I have my powder on 100% coverage, the ink levels at 75% of normal, and backed everything off until I'm almost getting an image to the material and it still offsets, and takes weeks to dry. Even with an infrared dryer, and delivering to stacks of 150 sheets I still have problems. Combine that with the fact that this stuff is so full of static it sticks to the jogging bar at the delivery end and won't lay on the paper tray at all. We've been given different inks made for this stuff but to no avail. And to make matters even worse, it's a run of 7600 sheets (at a 150 a tray, this is a long PITA job) :o  ???
