I have to agree with Joe. Going by the numbers is the best policy. True it takes knowledge and experience but so does calibrating monitors and KEEPING THEM calibrated. Most people in our industry are not very knowledgeable about COLOR and they forget that the ambient light plays a big role in calibrating any color device.

I have pretty much all the toys you can imagine for calibration (dtp-94, i1 display, i1 pro etc.) and the software. With this I can calibrate ACD pretty good. I noticed ColorEyesDisplay Pro using i1 pro gave me the best result.

What I don't like about ACD is that they are wide format. Most pictures are longer than wider and I am looking at something that is 1600x1200 not 1650x1050.

QuoteBTW, Apple mentions NONE of this data on their website

That pretty much sums it up. I've also spent some Googlin' time on this stuff, but concluded pretty early that I would not bother flogging the dead Apple horse. If they can't be open about what panel technology they're using, I'd prefer to chase something else, as I have. A basic requirement for a consumer, IMHO, is that you should have access to reasonable information. NEC tell you more than you need to know; so headed that way.
BTW, sounds lame, but the wikipedia entry on LCD monitors is really pretty good. Worth a a look.

Quote from: frailer on September 18, 2007, 10:31:58 PMThere's no way I'd get one without getting the basICColor calibration Squid2 puck and software. [it's a re-badged Eye-One, I think].
I downloaded and tried them all. ColorEyes Display Pro using eye one PRO gave me the best results. Close second was BasIColor (dtp-94), third was Monaco Optix XR using dtp-94, fifth was iMatch with eye 1 pro. Anyway, the worst was iMatch using eye one Display 2.

After some research online I see other pros also prefer CEDP as you will get better midtones. What I have seen is that CEDP with dtp-94 is the best match. Check it out. It's $175 (software only) per 3 computers even if you are using 2 monitors on each computer as I do. BasIColor is $69 per computer. I need to profile 6 computers so I would pay $350 for CEDP or $414 for BasIColor. I like CEDP better and it is cheaper. Since I already have dtp-94, i1 pro and i1 display 2 I need to buy software only.

All my testing was done using Apple 20" LCD on G5 under Tiger.
