$75 an hour when I do it. I don't chase outside work, just the occasional word-of-mouth referral.

General Prepress / Re: Monitors-what do you use?

Maybe ask what TWO monitors do you use? Got an apple cinema (big, don't remember actual size) and an old Sony 17" cart for the 300 adobe CS palettes.

Epson 7800 for contract proofs
Epson 9600 for imposition proofs

We only have one nexus license, used on the 7800. If it is down we fix it - have only lost a day or two since we bought it.

I once knocked on the darkroom and the woman inside said, "Who is it?"
WTF?! The only reason it would matter who it is, would be if someone working here was large enough to block out all available light - then you could let him open the door.

On a more serious note, I miss border tape.
And how excited I was to get a new font strip for the Compugraphic 7200.

The darkroom was always a nice place to escape to. I worked at a weekly newspaper, and scheduled an hour or two shooting PMT's on Tuesday nights - with a couple of cans of Budweiser ("Don't open the door - I'm REAL busy!")

Runs well for us, very consistent. Some trouble with acento plates inking up on no-dot areas. Next month we plan to upgrade to amigo plates.

Adobe Acrobat / Simulation profile question

Acrobat 7 Professional Mac OS 10.4.10
I have a job where the black appears to be built of of all 4 colors. The client sent me a screen shot showing a reading of 100 black. He is using US Web Coated SWOP as the simulation profile. I use one I made based on our 6-color press.
I notice color values change in the Output Preview window depending on which simulation profile I use. The values are only a simulation - correct? In other words, picking different simulation profiles DO NOT change the actual file? When I drop the pdf into a hot folder (nexus rip) the black comes out built.
