Freelance / Re: portable photo printing

When it comes to photo printing, there is only a few portable printers that will fit your requirements. As mentioned earlier i would try Cannon, and HP has a few cheap laser printers that could work. You won't be able to expect print shop quality, but it should serve your needs for all photo printing intents and purposes.

Gimp is getting way better. It's probably wise to get it now before it costs as much as CS.

Normally I would see this as a great innovation and competitor for the iPad, but I just don't view it that way. It looks like nothing more than a mini laptop and probably has less capabilities than one of those eBooks.

Ok maybe not that bad, but I just can't see it competing with the iPad in any sort of real way. Buy one Macbook Air and all of a sudden you're an Apple snob apparently.

3k is quite the investment, but the good thing about that is that Apple products maintain their value extremely well. You may drop 1k on a laptop PC, but the value decreases immediately. I've heard of people selling their Mac for near what they paid for it years down the line.

Definitely a sound investment.

If that is a grab to make people buy CS6 bravo Adobe. However, I'm under the impression that the security update may offer a fix and a reason to stick with CS5. I'm not sure whether this security threat was an isolated instance or something that poses serious risk.

I recommend CS6 anyway based on the new features.

Gradient strokes look amazing, a lot of potential there. I am also taken by the hi fidelity photo as this is one of the most crisp vector transitions that I've seen. There is a lot of awesome stuff in CS6 I will say that.

Technical / Re: Web Hosting
July 14, 2012, 01:08:16 PM
I primarily use Godaddy, but that's basically because it came with the domain name and I've been too lazy to switch. How difficult is it to switch hosting and how much cheaper is it?

Also what are the benefits to switching? I know as a techie I should know these things, but web hosting isn't an area that I'm overly familiar with.

Any help would be appreciated!

I've never even seen a blank warning box. I'm wondering if that's an Apple or Adobe thing.

Quite the odd and baffling warning. I'm glad that they are working on the fix.

Is there something to do with the refresh rate on your PC? Maybe the windows are closing but it's not registering with your machine? Could be something as simple as a defrag. Just throwing it out there.

When and where did you purchase your laptop? I got mine at the Apple store so they helped me set up my mail. I wasn't really paying attention to that part of the setup, but I think I use iCloud.

I read an article about the new features and I have to agree that content aware is one of the most amazing things I've ever seen in a graphics program. It almost takes away the whole idea of being a skillful designer.

Almost....

Adobe Acrobat / Re: The Best PDF's

Everyone who has ever crafted a PDF in their life should read this. Well-written, informative, and practical. This almost makes me what to read the book.

Bravo!

The Rest... / Re: Freehand

It's pretty much like this with most software bundles. New competitors pop up and offer the exact things that the frontrunner in CS is missing. Unfortunately, these competitors either get sick of not seeing a paycheck from their efforts or simply not having the manpower that Adobe does, but they simply don't keep up with the features.

Some people like to hang onto these programs either for some of their function (some of which Adobe still hasn't caught up to), but for my (good deal of) money, CS is just too cohesive of a package to compete with.

I can definitely see the appeal of the cheap or free programs for freelancers or those who can't afford the huge cost of the entire Creative Suite, but other than that as far as I'm concerned the programs just haven't evolved effectively enough.

Alright I'm sold. That content aware tool is amazing. That's pretty much the Holy Grail for editing purposes. The blur is also a completely awesome effect.

The interface is one of the best additions to be honest. I don't use Photoshop a WHOLE lot, but every time I did my eyes just started to burn after so long. The darkness is a lot lot easier on the eyes.

mmmm new vector shapes.

Pretty much sold by now I think.

CMS - Proofing - Printers / Re: Epson Stylus 3000

I really wouldn't bother with it. You can probably get a free printer with the purchase of a Mach III razor somewhere. The cartridges are a problem and I've never even heard of a success story when it comes to refill kits. I think the whole idea was a scam to increase the sales of ink cartridges. It had to be.

Pretty sure everyone has an old printer in their closet that they never use because they don't want to buy new ink cartridges, for jacked up print lines.

You can finally find a printer on eBay for the price of a printer head.
