Here is a link to what appears to be a manual for the ROCKSTROH VICTORIA press written in German.
Hope this helps.

Pressroom / Paper Shortage
September 30, 2021, 10:28:53 AM
Up until the last couple of weeks things have been going gang busters here. Now all the work seems to have fallen of a cliff. Just had a conversation with our scheduling Director. He says there is currently the biggest paper supply shortage ever seen. The women in charge procurement is losing her mind, she's trying to beg, borrow & steal to get the paper we need. We are turning away work, other printers are calling us offering us work if we can get the paper. Is anyone else experiencing this?

We had a few iMacs that had not had Acrobat updated yet. We renamed the Acrobat DC application on the Macs that were affected and then we copied the Acrobat DC application file from an unaffected Mac to the affected Macs and we got the problem fixed for now. We also turned off Auto Update in Acrobat Preferences for now.

On Friday I followed Joe's instructions above. Thanks Joe. It worked like a charm. This morning I started having the problem again, I quit Acrobat, then it worked fine. I quit Acrobat again and the problem reared it's ugly head once again.
I renamed the updated app xxAdobe Acrobat.app on Friday. Could the renamed app still launch randomly? I now moved the renamed app out of the folder completely. It seems to be working without issue now.

It looks like they are going to allow me to selectively restore files. I still don't think a full restore would be an issue in this case. The most recent Time Machine back-up is from March, long before there were any issues with the machine. The problem turned out to be a hardware problem, not a software problem.

Yeah, the tech said the drive is failing. He brought in a brand new iMac yesterday afternoon. 27" with 500GB SSD drive & 32GB of memory running Catalina. Waiting for him to complete the set-up. I'm still trying to convince him to use my Time Machine back-up. He thinks it will cause issues because the back-up is from such an old Mac. IT also gets weirded out by anyone plugging in external devices. I don't think it will be a problem. That's one of the main purposes of Time Machine, to transfer data when upgrading machines. I have several years worth of bookmarks, presets, short cuts, ect on that back-up. Not to mention I will have wait for the Prinergy upgrade before I can run Workshop. So it will probably be several weeks before I have the new machine set-up to my liking. Meanwhile I'll be bouncing back & forth between the new machine and the night shift Mac.

No, never used Linotype Type Explorer. I forgot to mention that the machine also takes a half an hour to boot up after restart. I have not heard anything from the IT department in 2 days.

An almost constant spinning beachball, barely usable. I wiped the hard drive and did a clean install of Mojave. I migrated a Time Machine back-up I had from March. It worked fine for one day, then crapped out again. The tech believes it's a hardware issue and is running diagnostics on it. I usually try to resolve the issue myself before involving IT. I can usually fix a software issue myself. The tech that usually helps prepress is easy to deal with. His boss, the head of the IT department seems to have an attitude towards Macs.

Thanks for the info Joe. Still waiting to hear from IT. They took my old Mac to the ER yesterday, I haven't heard boo since. Stuck using the night shift Mac for now. I miss the days when they let me take care of these things myself. IT is telling me that they may not allow me to Migrate from my Time Machine back-up. They tell me it has caused too many problems. This really pisses me off because the only computer problems I have had the last several years have been hardware related.

Macintosh / Big Sur Issues?
July 07, 2021, 10:20:18 AM
My vintage 2013 iMac just crapped out. The IT department seems intent on replacing it with a brand new iMac with Big Sur installed. I explained that this could cause a host of compatibility issues, but they don't seem to think it will be much of a problem. I disagree, but I may have no choice. I know we will have to update Prinergy to version 9.
What other compatibility issues can I expect? Will I be able to run Creative Cloud apps older than 2021? We still use Indesign 2019 often because the Smartstream Designer plug-in for Indesign 2021 has issues. Currently running EFI Metrix version 2019.2 for imposition. I'm guessing I will need to upgrade Pitstop also. Looks like I'm in for an enjoyable couple of weeks. :sarcasm:

In the rare instance that a client does not believe the atomic area's will not print, I have created a "Client Only" PDF. Rastering everything except the type, this usually fools them.

I start working from home tomorrow. They gave me a mac mini (circa 2011) and a 22" monitor. I took it home last night and set it up. I'll be remoting in to my work computer. It's gonna take a little getting used to, I have a 27" iMac with a 24" 2nd monitor at work. We are tweaking the work at home thing on the fly. Job tickets will e-mailed from CSR's. We have also created fillable PDF's of the forms we use frequently. One person on each shift will still be coming in to work to handle plating and proofing. Hope this virus crisis is over sooner than later.

Our State just issued a shelter in place on Friday. We have been deemed an essential business, some of the mailings we do are considered essential. We have been slow for a couple of weeks, but not as slow as I expected. That may change now. So far my company seems to be handling this very well. They have cut us down to 7 hour shifts with a 1 hour gap between 1st, 2nd & 3rd shifts so that we do not have contact with the other shifts. During that 1 hour gap they have a cleaning crew coming in and disinfecting everything. Almost our entire customer service dept is working from home except for a couple. They are now called runners and are shuttling job tickets, proofs ect. between departments. We are not supposed to leave the prepress except for bathroom breaks. No lunch break, but are allowed to eat lunch on the fly. They soon will have some of prepress working from home. They also announced up to 2 weeks paid leave for any coronavirus related absence. Very impressed with how they are handling it so far. Things will probably change if the work continues to dry up.
