We must start discussing something "inappropriate" and see what comes up. I can start.

I don't see those ads...am I missing anything?

I get ads in the middle of the page (actually just below the first reply) and at the bottom below the "recent topics" list.

I must be special

I had to get a new PC to replacing my aged dead one. I ordered the parts from TigerDirect and NewEgg and put it together. Decided to download Windows 8 and take it for a test drive...

It's a completely different Windows if you use the Windows Metro interface and I can see where it would be beneficial to have a touch screen. I'm still trying to figure out where things are at and how to accomplish many things. I have to admit it's not all that bad. I like the browser in the Metro interface. Full screen web page with only the bottom of the screen having the address bar. No clutter. You can use the old standard Windows desktop if you want with the taskbar at the bottom of the screen. However, there is no start button and unless I am missing something you have to go back to the Metro interface start page to see your list of installed applications. I think the one thing MIcrosoft accomplished with the Metro interface is that the screen doesn't seem as cramped and cluttered as the old Windows interface.

Speed is good. My new PC is an AMD Quad Core, 8 gb of ram, 1 gb video adapter. Nothing bleeding edge but it runs pretty snappy on it. Most manufacturers do not have Windows 8 drivers available but I haven't had any issues using the Microsoft supplied drivers for all of my hardware.

However, 99% of its users are confirmed technologically stupid and will not have a clue on how to get around and use it. If it fails, this will be the reason why. I would not want to be a Microsoft support person when this thing hits the store shelves.

As a bonus, when it is released, Microsoft is running an upgrade special where you can upgrade to Windows 8 Pro for $39.95. Only good until Jan 31st, 2013

Really? $39.95? Think it's worth it?

I got f***ed over building a computer for our pressman's gf, and now I'm sitting on a new AMD a4 quad core with 4gb RAM (3 open spots to add more), a 500gb hd and dual dvd burners. I'm going to sell it because I have no use for it. I put xp on it, because that's what she wanted, but if w8 will make me sell it faster, I might look into that.

Selling it with a 15" lcd (4:3), belkin usb wi-fi, ps2 keyboard and non-optical mouse for $350, if anyone is interested. If you want to do paypal, add about 7.5-10% to cover the fees + shipping costs.

Yeah, I think it's worth $39.95. But the deal isn't available until it actually ships. Which is rumored to be October.

Quote from: DigiCorn on July 05, 2012, 08:10:25 AMI put xp on it.

A legal copy of XP that you are including the disk with the PC or a copy of a copy you had lying around? I wouldn't sell it with a bogus copy of Windows. That can come back to bite you in the ass.

It's a legal copy, that I am keeping the disk - it's installed on only one other running box that belongs to my father-in-law. I know the repercussions, but someone is getting a pretty nice box for only $350, and if they're buying it from me on CL, they know what they're getting.

Which means the one on your FIL's PC is legal. The other is not.
